Dr. Jonathan Eden Benaknin, MD

Do not go to him he can not listen nor type at the same time. Will over charge because he needs extra time to write a note after you finish answering his questions. Because of this he over charges you even for the extra 5 minutes he needs to type. This will cost YOU as your insurance will not cover his nickel and dimeing. His Prescribed medication when checked by other physicians I have seen later alarmed them as it was not a well planned regiment to address issues I had Even gone to him for. Waste of effort and time. Please see anyone else but him at CMPS.

It is clear upon entry to his office that Dr. Benaknin genuinely cares about the emotional well-being of his patients in a field. Because finding a compassionate, principled, intelligent medical professional is seemingly rare (especially within mental health), it's my opinion that he's a model psychiatrist. It's also worth noting that he will *not* make an immediate judgement and prescribe heavy medication. It's difficult to express how greatly just two visits with Dr. Benaknin improved my mood and thus my life, and I cannot recommend him enough.

I was trying to wean off the medications previous doctors had prescribed me. He never really listened to anything I had to say, just prescribed medication. He seemed to act like he listened, but he would ask me questions about things I had already told him. He told me I wasn't decreasing my medications fast enough after a year of seeing him and "dismissed" me in the middle of a crisis even though we upped the meds temporarily (not permanently) to help me get through the situation. Never asked me what I was actually taking out of what was prescribed to be before he dismissed me for "inability to reduce medications" when I was actually reducing, however, had just gone up temporarily to help me through something. Was actually taking less than he prescribed me but never asked how much of it I was taking before he dismissed me. I've seen a lot of psychiatrists and not a single one has dismissed me for something like this - even when I was having trouble decreasing. How uncaring of him to… "dismiss" a patient in the middle of a crisis. Absolutely unacceptable and uncaring. Even have all of my paperwork from the pharmacy (I keep them) and you can see the decrease in medications over the year I was seeing him, with the one exception - we went up a bit on meds to help me through the instance. You can actually see I was on less than when I started seeing him. Just uncaring. Didn't listen. Would never ever recommend him. Made my crisis even worse because I cried my heart out wondering what was wrong with me to be "dismissed" even though I've never been dismissed by a psychiatrist before and I knew I had decreased. No. Just No. Don't do it.
