Dr. Jonathan M Bernstein, MD

I was recommended to Dr. Bernstein by my optometrist. I had a small tear in my retina. After he looked in my eye he noticed several tears in the one and a few small tears in my other eye. He is very knowledgeable and very thorough! He operated on the one eye that had the major tears and set up an appointment for the other eye. His assistant stated he was not on the schedule for the day he wanted to operate on my other eye. He simply stated he would come in for the procedure. I asked his assistant if he always just came in for one procedure. She stated he does whatever needs to be done. He is very skilled with the delicacy needed for working with the eye, very steady hands. I would definitely recommend him to anyone who asks. I would also use him again.

I saw Dr. Bernstein on 2 separate occasions, at 2 different locations. Each time he was overbooked, in Toledo by almost 2 hours and in Adrian, by 45 minutes. His bedside manner was terrible. He was rushed, rude, and at my last visit, un-shaved and his hair looked uncombed. He also had no clue that he referred me to my second visit, and my chart information was incorrect. During my first visit to the Toledo location, they did NOT keep their patients socially distanced. I also found it ridiculous that they expect patients to check themselves in at a computer kiosk. The majority of their patients are elderly, and while I was there, 100% of the elderly patients either asked for assistance or begged to not have to use it! I’m not elderly but even I struggled to sign it. Also we’re all there for EYE issues, so using your eyes to try to look at a computer screen seemed very ludicrous to me. I would not recommend Dr Bernstein nor will I be a future patient of his.

He was outright rude. No compassion. Raised his voice at me and told the nurse to put in my chart inconclusive. He put an object in my several different times to hold my eye still....not for sure. He didn't explain anything. Told me to take a Valium before I come to my next appointment. Valium is not going to remove the pain he inflicted. He didn't even apologize for the discomfort. He raised his voice at me and spoke to me very disrespectful. Do not see this doctor!!

I had symptoms that my retina was detached. I went to see Dr. Bernstein. He seemed very pleasant at first when he asked me questions about my medical history. My experience after that was horrible. I was taken into a dark room, he didn't explain anything to me about what he was going to do or what I might expect. He placed this instrument inside of my eye socket four separate times and told me to look in four different directions. The pain was intolerable. I told him it hurt, he raised his voice at me and told me to come back in one month and to take a Valium before I come. Because he was going to do it all over again. I still don't know for sure what object he put in my eye. It felt like it was metal and it felt very tight to my eye causing a lot of pain and pressure. He displayed no compassion. I have a very high tolerance for pain and what he did to me was intolerable.

not happy with care would NOT see him again

I saw Dr. Bernstein for a detached retina. All went well till after surgery and I got home. My b/p dropped and I passed out. My husband called rescue. Was taken to hospital, given IV. Anyway, was sent home. Was told to call my doc that did surgery in the morning. Was connected with doctor Dr. Bernstein. First thing out of his mouth was. I Knew I would have problems with you! Then had to make appointment to see him. What a jerk..

We waited an hour in examining room. After her last visit myomere had been voluntarily hospitalized because she had had stroke in her eye. While there the doctors did all vital tests to assure That she hadn't had other damage she brought him CDs of tests and had primary physician send over radiology reports. The first thing he said was I didn't ask you to come in. Mom said no my primary physician told me to come for a follow up. He was very brusque acted almost like he thought he was being held responsible. He never asked her if she had questions or concerns. She had been told he had to OK her driving. He acted very diffident about that as well. This doctor has the worst bedside manner I've ever seen. We will NOT be returning!

Brusque and dismissive of my 87 year old father who can no longer drive.
