Dr. Jonathan Creighton Houpt, MD

Had a broken wrist and was given Dr Houpt. Terrible bed side manner. Took him 6 hrs for something that could have been done in 2. Got real uppity with me when I asked how much longer. I was there for 9 hrs! He would never make it on his own. Patients would not want to see him volunteerily.

I went to the emergency room at Hoag where I had Dr. Houpt. He listened to my symptoms and started running tests. He was the only doctor in seven months to figure out what was wrong with me. He didn’t spend a lot of time with me and there was no reason for him to. He had an emergency room full of patients. He did the tests and figured out was wrong and admitted me to the hospital. That to me is an excellent doctor. Hopefully I never have to go back to ER but if I do I would want him to be my doctor.

I went to ER via ambulance cuz couldn’t get myself there! I was surprised Hoag ER wasn’t it’s usual 5. I felt like they just wanted to dispense pain meds, hydrate and send me home. I didn’t feel taken seriously except for one staff and Dr Houpt was nice but...I couldn’t breathe through my nose at all with severe unusual migraine headache, neck-ache, tingling in arms, different than usual. I expected medical staff would figure it out and diagnose. My headache was severe. No pillow, had to ask for blanket, (freezing) they didn’t put nurses call button where I could reach it...6 days later after self-medicating enough to shower & go to local Urgent Ctr, that Doctor gave me the antibiotic I needed for Severe Sinus, Cranial, & Ear(s) Infection. That seems like a ‘textbook basic set of symptoms’ ER should have figured out, diagnosed, & dispensed antibiotic. I felt disappointed & wondered if it was because of my age? We have value for excellent medical treatment regardless of age. Two days… into antibiotic and a week of navaging, ear drops, decongestant meds, I’m still not breathing clearly through my head, medium to mild headache, nasal ache, neck ache, et al ongoing, but on the upswing. Even though I know many people have more serious problems, I felt this was a ‘basic often seen illness’ that was overlooked, and like there was no need to suffer as I did, and I’m still not well yet. I hope they consider our comments and improve their procedures of care. Thank you for those who did a good job.

I too was in ER . He completed ignored the concers I had. I have gastro issues; he checked my heart! Then he prescribed pain pills- hydrocodon. What's up with that? This not abz er so I do not understand why he couldn't spend more then a few minutes with me.

Spends little to no time with you. I was in the ER for 6 hours, he saw me for two minutes when he first saw me and didn't see him one time since. He communicated through the nurses, never advised me of test results, never checked on me, followed up, discussed care, I was admitted to the hospital and I didn't even know it until the hospitalist came in and spoke with me. Dr. Houpt didn't even have the decency to come in and discuss the plan with me. Worst ER doctor at Hoag and I have seen a lot of them over the last 10 years for a chronic heart condition. If I get him again I will ask to see another physician.

Terrible doctor. Really seems as though he could care less. Doesn't discuss what the plan will be when you see him in the ER, doesn't explain the results of your tests, He's a complete waste of time. TERRIBLE Emergency Room DR. - it's really too bad as everyone else at Hoag is just great.

horrible doctor, he is in the wrong profession, cares about billing, not patient health

CAres about running up a bill to jusify getting paid, does not care about treating the patient. Very arrogaqnt.
