Dr. Jonathan Sydney Kirschner, MD

I am also a physician and therefore have aded insight into his bedside manner, surgical prowess, his technique and his level of information and how up to date he is on current therapy in his specialty and his awareness of latest breakthroughs in physiatry I have been seeing Dr Kirschner for about 8 years and followed him from Mount Sinai to HSS. Over the years, he has helped me avoid surgery by suggesting alternative and successful therapy for my joint pain. He is very knowledgeable and makes sure I understand what's going on before the end of the visit, and if not, we go over it again. He is very responsive to my emails and makes himself available when needed. I recommend Dr. Kirschner unqualifiedly to any patient seeking musculoskeletal pain relief.

At age 57 I thought I might have to give up my bi-weekly basketball game due to chronic pain in my achilles. Dr. Kirschner recommended a quick, painless treatment that completely addressed my condition. He communicated with great clarity and took care of me effectively and efficiently. I'm playing ball again and can't thank him enough.

Been to Dr Kirschner at Mt Sinai and later Hosp Spec Surgery; needed a physiatrist for my arthritic hips; I found him open and personable and helpful with meds and with physical therapy prescriptions. When it was time for surgery and hip replacement he gave me a list of surgeons to pick from, no favorite referral.

This Dr is the most arrogant man I have ever met. He doesn’t give you a chance to talk n expresses his opinion in an arrogant way If you have a question he barely answers it n continues talking even if you are confused to what he is saying. He is cold n rude! He walks out of the room as you r talking to him. Has no manners. I don’t care how smart he thinks he is he does not have the right to treat his patients this way. I would never recommend him.

I've been to number of HSS doctors and Dr. Kirschner is by far the best! I was under mach 10 stress due to taking care of 2 sick parents, flying all the time coupled with a torn hamstring, sciatica, torn hamstring-- all a 10 on the pain scale. Dr. Kirschner's approach is conservative which I like and he made himself available and got me in to see him asap. As for wait time, maybe 15-20 mins the most if that. I've been to other HSS docs where the wait was close to 90 mins and that's why I don't go to him anymore. Dr. Kirschner is just a fabulous, attentive & caring doctor!!!

Awful service from staff! Waited 3 weeks for appointment which is normal. Day before they ask if I can come in a half hour earlier. I said I would try but was driving and couldn’t check trains(it’s a 2 hour commute to office.) Well they moved my appointment up 30 minutes, then when I got there 10-15 min before my actual appointment time they said I was late and wouldn’t see me when actually I was early as a courtesy. With such rude service there’s no way I would reschedule and risk similar treatment!

I first visited Dr. Kirschner over two years ago, this is two years after knee surgery and not being able to walk without pain. I unfortunately visited many doctors, Drs. of acupuncture and pain management specialists. Dr. Kirschner diagnosed the cause of my pain, it was related to my spine and gave me successful treatment. Over the two years of not walking just limping about my muscles had atrophied, I went to the gym and rebuilt muscle tone. I am 70 years old and the injection was good for two years. Then the pain began but in only one leg. I called Dr. Kirschner, he squeezed me into his already fully booked schedule, met with me today and readministered the injection. The team at HSS on 75th Street is wonderful and supportive, their goal is to make their patients live life to their fullest. Bravo to this team.

I have osteoarthritis in both shoulders. As an alternative to surgery, my physiatrist suggested a study being conducted by Dr Kirschner. It was a study giving the patient either their own blood platelets or hyraleuronic acid. I was told to be in the study an MRI had to be taken. After the doctor reviewed the MRI, I was told I qualified for the study and I set up an appointment for treatment. I went in for my appointment and first spoke to the research asst Then I met a Dr who was a fellow working on the study with Dr Kirschner…He examined and questioned me and told me I was qualified…He then drew blood (while I was covered, so I couldn’t see what was being done or tell which shot I was receiving) Then Dr, Kirschner arrived and I was questioned and examined again. He basically told me I was NOT qualified and the study also required an x ray. Up to this point, an x ray was never mentioned. He then gave me 2 shots and a pain log which I sent back the next day, The doctor’s… office called the next day to tell me I was not qualified. It was clear that there was confusion in the office. I qualified then I wasn’t. I needed and MRI then suddenly I needed an X RAY. The venepuncture was performed and blood taken BEFORE I was qualified for the study. Based on this conclusion it is clear that the office is not professionally run. It was obvious to me that Dr,. Kirschner did not want me in the study. I had three invasive shots for nothing. As the doctor is cherry picking his patients I wonder about the independence of the study.

Sheila who handles his schedule is all of those things. I am sure he is in demand since he is a bright guy, but she comes across on a power trip since she runs the schedule for a successful dr.
