Dr. Jonathan A Mandelbaum, MD

If I could give him zero stars I would. I went to him for a consult for a hiatal hernia that was diagnosed on a endoscopy because I continued to be sick and in pain after changing my diet and being on meds for a while. The first thing that he mentioned when he walked in the door was me being on 2mg of Suboxone because I have been in recovery for 4 years. Which was a very low dose and my PCP has been helping me taper down to where I can be off of it. He didn't bother going through my file to see how well I had been doing and he didn't know me or what all that I had been through during my recovery. He was more focused on my past and history than what he was with my health issues. He ordered some tests and wanted me to see a gastroenterologist because he didn't think that I needed to be in a hurry for surgery and kept saying that all my stuff wasn't making sense and not listening to me about how it was affecting my everyday life, my job, and my health. I tried to show him my test results… from my endoscopy that my PCP had me go and do, and he turned his back and shrugged me off. After I had went and had an upper GI ran, no one called me over my test results so I had to call them and they tried telling me that it was normal. After he had put in for a couple of other tests, his office never called me over my test results, put it on my patient portal, nor did they call me for a follow up appointment. I was then fed up with him and the staff and asked my PCP to send me somewhere else for a second opinion. I just had a nissen funduplication surgery done because it turns out that I had very severe acid reflux which caused chronic gastritis. On top of that, it took my surgeon about 7 hours to perform my surgery because of the damage that was done in my stomach along with my liver being enlarged from the inflammation. Also there were lesions that was caused both from my acid reflux and having my gallbladder taken out, (David Mandelbaum, his brother did my gallbladder surgery). I would never recommend him for a surgeon. If he doesn't like you as a patient, he will neglect you as a patient and your health. I am going to contact a lawyer due to him and his staff's negligence on my case!

Worst bedside manner. Very Judgmental. I was fat shamed and I went in for a simple consult on a simple procedure and he really showed no concern for my discomfort or my needs. He just wanted to tell me how large I was and how difficult my gallbladder removal would be because of my size. I would never send any of my loved ones or even my worst enemies to Dr Mandelbaum!

He and the anesthesiologist decided to give my husband pain medication that my husband refused. They knew and we're fully aware he had adverse reaction to dilaudid. They did it anyway. They infringed on his patient rights, my advocacy, his right to refuse treatment by giving him medication against his will. My husband had such a horrible reaction. He was in pain. I will tell the world. No means no, Dr. Mandelbaum. Choose ANYONE else.

I had a gastric tumor where my esophagus and stomach met, which was located in an inner wall. Dr. Mandelbaum was highly recommended as my surgeon, and quite honestly, I could not have cared less what his bedside manner was. My only concern was that he/she was knowledgeable and could get the job done! Not only did he get the job done, but I found him to be very kind as well. Consequently, my daughter and I have both had Dr. Mandelbaum perform hernia repairs on us since my first surgery.As far as the office wait, I found it to be shorter than my average wait in a doctors office and the staff has ALWAYS been pleasant to work with.

Awesome Doctor. He was professional and had a great bedside manner. He performed the removal of a pilonidal cyst on my son and I have referred him to other patients as well.

i think he has a very cold bedside manner and we heard he was the best at st francis well i'd hate to see their worst.I had a lot of problems after my surgery and they were not taken care of promptly.

i felt like he cared little about me as patient,gave no true insight into what surgery would entail and what recovery time would be with pain swelling and numbness

I never felt like MY needs mattered. I would ask the same questions over and over and still never get an answer. My appointments lasted an hour and 45 minutes and he met with me approx 4 min of that time. When he called me to tell me about a malignant tumor found, it was as if he was ordering a pizza! Very cold and impersonal. After my first surgery, he NEVER came back to the hospital room to follow up. I saw him for all of 30seconds prior to the surgery. Overall, it was a very frustrating experience with him. I have been told that he is skilled. I think that's wonderful, but I think there are plenty of surgeons in the area who are skilled AND will actually care about me. I'm lucky that my oncologist referred me one right away. Also can't tell you how many times the staff told me "he's very busy"; never had time for ME.
