Dr. Jonathan David Miller, MD

Jonathan David Miller, MD should be reprimanded for his conduct during my emergency-room visit. In my experience, he appeared unable or unwilling to focus, and his bedside manner was aggressive, erratic, dismissive, rushed, and completely lacking in the professionalism I expect from an emergency physician. The facility should conduct a serious review of both his conduct and the accuracy of his documentation. My experience with Dr. Miller was disturbing enough that I immediately contacted my insurance company from the parking lot and filed a grievance. By my observation, the emergency department was extremely quiet and nearly empty, yet I waited a considerable amount of time before he entered the room. I was there because five days earlier I had suffered a new acute right-knee injury. I suddenly became unable to bend or lift my knee, had severe deep inner-knee pain, and had been limping and dragging my right leg for five days despite rest, repeated icing, and trying to care for it… myself. Instead of carefully listening to that acute history, Dr. Miller repeatedly interrupted me and repeatedly tried to end the conversation before I had finished explaining what had happened. I had to keep asking him, May I finish? I also asked him to close the examination-room door because I was discussing private medical information while employees and cleaning personnel were passing directly outside. I specifically told him that I felt extremely uncomfortable having the door left open. He nevertheless kept it open. What made that even more disturbing was that I was lying on the hospital bed with my injured knee exposed and wearing a skirt. From my position, I observed Dr. Miller repeatedly looking in the direction underneath my skirt between my thighs. I found this extremely uncomfortable and inappropriate, particularly after I had expressly asked for the door to be closed for privacy. I was left wondering who else walking past that open doorway could see me while I was in that vulnerable position. I found the entire experience degrading, disrespectful, and completely lacking in basic patient privacy and dignity. He ought to be ashamed of the way this encounter was handled.
