Dr. Jonathan Harvey Smeltzer, DO

Poor communication and does not monitor health issues properly or review medical history when giving test results.

I would steer clear of Dr. Smeltzer. There is terrible communication between him and his nurse and the patient. He will say one thing in the office and a completely different thing over the phone and then something else at the next appointment. He almost seems like he's in it for the money, to be honest. He wants people to come in for every little thing, even a referral or medicine refill. It takes several days to get a refill in, even when you see him that morning. So long in fact that you have to call the doctor on call to get it in. Seems like he's always on vacation or not in the office. Takes months to complete paperwork. Doesn't seem interested in finding actual causes for symptoms and prescribed weight loss for pretty much everything. Will not refer you to another doctor and gets upset when you do or if you seek another opinion. He has dismissed several patients from the entire practice because they seek out another doctor. I'd say he embodies most major issues a doctor could… have.

I have a myriad of medical issues and Dr. Smeltzer has addressed all of them with compassionately and thoroughly to make sure all symptoms were addressed. He’s extremely professional and caring as well as his staff.

Very very thorough. You never feel rushed. He is very efficient and has excellent bed side manners.

Seems to drop the ball on more than one occasion. Was supposed to have 2 prescriptions sent in but only one was. I had to call back and leave a message on another nurses line. The nurse line to leave a message for his nurse never allows you to. I felt rushed in my appointment. He did not answer my questions. Was actually told 'we don't have time to discuss that'. He asked if I wanted to see a dietician due to my questions. I said yes and he never followed up with a referral to one. In the meantime, I found a new Dr. and my own dietician. Meanwhile I was still waiting, (8 weeks total) to get the tesults from a medical test he ordered. Honestly I had given up. I have a high deductible health plan like many these days. I'm paying for this and I expect better for my money. I do not recommend him at all.
