Dr. Jooyeon Lee, MD

If I could leave zero stars, I would. I went to Dr. Lee in a point of my life where I was struggling with my mental health and felt that the increasing chest pains and loss of focus that I had when it came to taking tests was not normal and could be a more serious sign of anxiety. After talking to my school counselor and primacy doctor, they recommended that I meet a psychiatrist and see about qualifying for accommodations. I was 20 years old at the time and had never met with a psychiatrist before and drove over an hour for my appointment. After I explained my symptoms and how it seemed to be abnormal, Dr. Lee stopped taking notes and told me that in life, I cannot always receive “short cuts” just because I sometimes get stressed. She said that receiving accommodation would just give me an out and that she could not give me that out. She then proceeded with a long spiel but at that point, I was no longer listening because I was more focused on not crying. While I understand that that… was her ‘professional opinion’, to have belittled a young woman who is clearly struggling and degrade her feelings by claiming that she is “asking for a shortcut”, is a poor practice and a sad excuse for a person who was taught to diagnose and treat human emotions every day.

I’ve struggled with anxiety and depression my whole life and while my issues are now well-managed, I’m sad to say the Dr Lee is probably the worst mental health professional I’ve ever had the displeasure of meeting. I found her to be bullying, aloof, and completely disinterested in me or my mental health concerns. She was obsessed with getting her questions answered in the specific way that she needed to quickly complete her “notes”, and her eyes almost never left the computer screen. Some people just aren’t cut out for jobs that involve helping others, and this is one of those people. I hope Dr. Jooyeong Lee can find another career better suited to her surly demeanor, and I also hope this review helps another person on their journey to find one of the many good doctors out there.

Dr. Lee managed my psych medication for 10 months. She's very aloof and impersonal. Generally she doesn't even look at you when asking questions. Instead she's looking at the screen typing away. She also doesn't like it when you disagree with her and want to have a discussion, and instead will remind you she's a psychiatrist and therefore knows better. If you just need someone to write prescription for your psych med every month I guess she's ok, but if you want to be treated like a person I would suggest somewhere else.

I am leaving a review for Dr. Lee who has been a tremendous help with speaking with my mom (who is very ill past 5 months) while also taking time to make sure I am also doing okay. We appreciate her patience and professionalism as I probably took much of her effort. I have been struggling with my own health as well. I highly recommend Dr. Lee.

Dr. Lee has very limited experience in post residency and fellowship practice and doesn’t seem to listen to the primary complaint and best determine the more critical issues at hand. She relies on PCP screening tools as a reliable indicator to sway her decision making on medication management, not listening to the patient while she carries preconceived decision algorithms based on PCP screens, and lecturing the patient and family whose concerns are not adequately heard. Dr. Lee needs to learn better bedside manners and this includes actually listening to the patients, processing their subjective concerns, asking follow up clarification questions when family is present to gain objective data, and put it all together into a workable treatment plan. Telling a patient and family she doesn’t have time because she has another patient; we all know that, we know the time frame, we also lose time at work to go to the appts and know the time allotted. She is clearly new in the field and… doesn’t know how to manage her own anxiety when facing a patient- generated concern.
