Dr. Montes and his dedicated team at Valley Plaza Dental Group are committed to being at the forefront of cosmetic techniques and technology. Dr. Montes graduated in 1985 and was #1 in his class for clinical excellence / dentistry. He was a dental technician for four years before entering dental school at the University of California at San Francisco (UCSF). Known for his stickler for detail, many of his patients are other dentists, and dental technicians, and instructors. Dr. Montes has appeared on several TV spots and on radio shows to explain different aspects of dentistry. He has also lectured with plastic surgeons at health fairs and seminars. Dr. Montes has taught at UCSF & USC Dental Schools, Pasadena City College in the dental hygiene program, and at the East Los Angeles Occupational Center for the dental assistant program. Dr. Montes specializes in Cosmetic Dentistry with an emphasis on individual unique smile designs. He loves dentistry and is constantly taking …continuing education courses to keep up with the new advancements in dentistry.
Dr. Montes came in first place amongst several dentists from around the nation in an Advanced Cosmetic dental course held at USC. He has taken two, one year residency programs at the Esthetic Professionals for the advancement in Cosmetic and Reconstructive Dentistry. He has been in dentistry since 1974 starting with his 2 year dental technology program. His first job as a dental technician was working for instructors from USC and UCLA. Encouraged by the dentists he was working for, they told him he had the three qualities for the making of a great dentist. He had exceptional dexterity with his hands, he is fluent in English and Spanish, and he is a people person. You can call the office and ask to talk to Dr. Montes directly before coming in just to see how nice he is. He has put many people at ease by talking to him before coming in to their first appointment. Dr. Montes has been active in several organizations. Not only in dentistry but also religious and athletic organizations, and has served as an expert witness in different dental malpractice court cases.
Dr. Montes is an all around athlete. He loves racquetball, tennis, cycling, hiking, golf, scuba diving, and bowling. He also loves photography and chess. His daughter Veronica Sofia is also a top athlete in volleyball and played for the San Gabriel Volleyball Club where she was the setter on the 18-Elite team and has competed in the Junior Olympics. She was setter at FSHA high school and was team captain in college at LMU. Dr. Montes was featured on several TV programs for his heroics in saving two LAPD officers who were shot during the North Hollywood Bank of America shootout directly across the street from his office.
