Dr. Jose Antonio Apud, MD

Dr Apud saved my life, it's as simple as that. I came to him after many years of working with other psychiatrists with little success. He told me that if I stuck with Clozaril I'd get better. I wanted to believe him, but after all the medications I had tried, I didn't have much hope. But I did stick with it, and you know what? While I still have some residual symptoms, I feel like my life has been given back to me. Although Dr Apud is quick to point out that this was due to my hard work, it wouldn't have been possible without his guidance. He is kind and empathic, smart and knowledgeable, and a wonderful doctor and person.

Excuse my language that is not aligned with psychiatric terminology, but I have no other words to describe this man than “egotistical nut job”. We had maybe a handful of appointments. He spent the first FOUR doing an intake. I asked him why it took four days. He said “well it would’ve been easier if you gave me your records from past psychiatrists”. Same with medication, he demanded a list of things I’ve taken. Of course, I obliged- just needed to go fetch the list. Then he changes his mind and says I need to get it from a past doctor. I was so confused. He started calling me names like untrustworthy (I don’t even know him..). We agreed I’d just stop by the pharmacy and get a list. He suddenly FLIES off the handle with “I CANT WORK WITH YOU I CANT WORK WITH YOU YOURE DIFFICULT TO WORK WITH AND I WILL GO TELL YOUR DOCTOR!” Again, so confused. I was like “oh my gosh sir why are you yelling, I literally just agreed with you. Alright, you’ve got it wrong. I’M not working with *you*”… He’s just the worst. I don’t think he can smile either. Maybe his face is stuck that way.

Very negative doctor, instead of helping you to try to overcome your problems, he puts you down.

I have multiple previously diagnosed neurological/psychiatric conditions, and Dr. Apud did an excellent job of his initial intake appointment, and we have been navigating our way through through rather nuanced medication and behavioral treatments to address multiple issues in a way that reflects range and depth of understanding. When I lost health insurance, he worked with me to keep my medication management at a tolerable level despite limited funds until my situation improved. Excellent range of available appointment times, too.

I don't have any doubt that this doctor is very knowledgeable but his problems is that he doesn't really seem to care about their patients recovery, from the very first appointment he tells you that you have a chronic disease therefore why taking therapy with him because the meds are the only solution.
