Dr. Joseph F Acquaviva, MD

I don’t take this review lightly, I am being equally considerate. This practice brought in more issues to my life than when I came in ok. And towards the end of our relationship it was ended by Stacey all over a school complaint that they said the therapist wasn’t communicating enough w/ the school. All of a sudden I was discharged after a 7 year relationship, my records were destroyed, and I later learned through adult evaluations that I don’t have bipolar but TBI dx & Depression w/ psychosis dx. I trusted these people with my pathology and my thoughts only to be randomly betrayed. Now I don’t trust strangers anymore.

Does not care about his patients, rushed appointments, nonchalant attitude about everything

I have read all the reviews posted for Dr Aquaviva. When depressed, psychotic and personality disordered individuals are empowered to write what they supposedly think about something they know nothing about, it seems like they attack the hand that feeds them. I have known Dr A for thirty years as a professional- caring, competent and very down to earth. Unfortunately, to date he cannot perform miracles - but does his best to offer professional advice and assistance. Bottom line: he is an excellent doctor. If I want to get good information about a doctor, I would ask a perso whom I respect if they have had personal experience, then act on that. I have never gotten misled using this technique. Dr J Aquaviva is one doctor I would refer any family or friend. He does have one major problem - he is VERY honest.

I met with a 1/2 dozen doctors before meeting Dr. A ; Some of them I met with too many times. It was the regular care from Doctor A. : Between medication and life advice I now fit-in with the general public; when I met him I saw the world in a strange way; I have seen him for almost ten years each month; I had a family that was embarrassed to have me as a son; now they are proud; I had a wife and kids that were going to leave me ( and they did leave me) because of my eccentricities / mental illness; now we are together again and a happy family; I am so fortunate to have met this man & his team at psychiatric associates in Rochelle Park NJ; This is not an advertisement; I am David Alan., I am so very blessed to have crossed paths with his off which is located in Rochelle Park NJ near Rt. 17 ; his full name is Dr. Joseph F Acquaviva. he is a psychiatrist.

Does not return an urgent call for 3 weeks, lets his discourteous staff control his office

I've been seeing Dr. A. for over 20 years and he is a very good match for my personality and illness. He is always honest and helpful in every way.

Abusive staff. This led me to further research the practice, terrible reviews on other sites . Its not worth it, $400, dollars up front to be abused, thank you but no. They have horrible reviews so beware and do your research. Abusive staff = abusive doctors. This practice is not affiiated with any hospital, who would have them, and do not participate in insurance again who would have them, If you need a doctor search at the hackensack hospital website.

I have been treated by Dr. Acquaviva since late 2005. He is very thorough and always looking for new ways to handle my persistent depression and anxiety. I have had high and low points, but I attribute this to the disease, not to the care. He has always treated me with respect and never made me feel rushed. He is available for emergency calls and always has suggestions. My biggest problem is with his office staff, which is currently in transition, thank goodness. I'm very grateful for his intelligence and creative thinking. I would not hesitate to recommend a friend.

Dr. A is a great MD! He has helped me tremendously. He has a wonderful bedside manner and is very easy to talk to. He's very knowledgable and current with all the latest research/studies. For anyone to give him a bad review it could not have been him. I think it was more the patient with an issue.

I had seen Dr. A over 15 years ago after a MDD episode. He suggested a newer medication at that time and it worked. I was very thankful for Dr. A's suggestion and appreciative of his care and his caring attitude. Years went by with no health issues until recently where I had a slightly different health issue and decided to contact the doctor. Unfortunately, this time my experience differed greatly. He suggested a medication that simply was not working. Even after weeks of this medication and no change, he had no alternatives and basically expressed frustration. Keep in mind I had seen him only twice in 15 years. And with this recent issue, I saw him ~9 times. My impression is that he is burnt out or frustrated with his profession. It is, undoubtedly, a challenging career, however, his sincerity does not seem the same as when I first saw him over 15 years ago. I might also add that his staff is terrible. His 'office manager' is simply curt and rude and, unfortunately, the… other receptionists follow her lead. It is too bad really. He was, at one time, a very good doctor.
