Dr. Joseph Ignatius Acra, MD

I knew of someone who was a patient of Dr. Acra. This person indicated that he was knowledgeable of treating this persons particular illness and took the appropriate action as a psychiatrist and in medication recommendation. The problem was how he did so. There is a difference between having wisdom and experience in ones profession and displaying the confidence that comes with that as opposed to coming across as arrogant, egotistical, pompous and demeaning. Maybe this is “acceptable” in other professions. Definitely not in treating individuals in need of mental health care where compassion is a must. To clarify, true compassion, not artificial because the profession requires it. I am sure that there are many doctors who are much worse. Maybe this doctor is burned out. Doing a quick Google search I found out that he was charged with indecent assault and battery back in 2019 at his place of work. I don’t know the entire situation but this does not reflect good upon his reputation. After… I found this out and reflecting on what the person I knew of said about him, it does make sense. If I needed to see a psychiatrist I definitely would not see this doctor.

Dr. Acra is a wonderful and excellent doctor! Very professional !!!! He spent time with me to explain his assessment of my condition and what his recommendations were. He was very straightforward and explained everything clearly, from the side effects of the prescribed medications to the time needed to start feeling better. He really showed interest in making me feel comfortable and safe. I certainly dare to recommend him to all my friends and family.

On a recent Appt. Dr.Acra yelled at me for the duration of our Appt Having issues with Quest Labs in Brookline . Not my problem Iam the Patient, not the Doctor. Total speculation! Angry person. Needs a change of scenery.

I have seen Me Acra several times. He has canceled appoints on me with very little notice twice. I have been mocked by him anytime I show any type of emotion. Today when Mr Acra was late I mentioned it to him. He immediately became defensive and proceed to explain that me feeling disrespected by him was "only in my head" When I told him I thought he was acting unprofessional he He, for no reason threatened to call the cops on me. This man comes across as being very antagonistic and unprofessional.
