Dr. Joseph Francis Audette, MD

I believe all the negative reviews were made by one disgruntled patient. Dr Audette is a kind intelligent Doctor. He really knows his stuff. I have always found his medical judgement sound

Dr. Audette had no interest in helping to solve my pain. He seemed willing to work with me at first and tried one type of injection, but when that didn’t help (and actually made my pain worse), he would not try anything else on me. He just said I don’t respond well to injections and would not respond to my calls when I tried to ask him questions about other options. Real pain management doctors know that you have to keep trying different treatments if one doesn’t work, not just send someone away to a psychologist if the first try isn’t successful. He should be ashamed of himself.

Had a great experience with Dr. Audette. Helped me through a spine issue and associated pain. Practices acupuncture, which I had had no experience with prior to him. Later helped me with other pain issues and got me on track to a healthier life. I always found he listened to me and took a broad view of health relative to many other specialty doctors. Amazing.

This doctor seems to have a serious character disorder. He has a holier than thou, god-like attitude, patronizing, misogynistic, almost sadistic. Said very inappropriate things to me that made me feel very vulnerable alone in the exam room with him. He doesn’t listen carefully to symptoms and applies one size fits all so-called remedies. He should really not be in the field of medicine- pain, no less- as he causes it more than relieves it.

Dr Audette should not be practicing medicine. He is truly incompetent and one of the rudest, misogynistic, sadistic doctors I’ve ever encountered. He doesn’t listen to what you say, has a know- it -all smirk on his face, and makes inappropriate comments that border on sexual harassment. This man is not fit for treating plants, let alone people. Ironic that he is a pain doctor, as he causes so much physical and emotional distress.

Saw Audette some years ago for Fibromyalgia. Tried to suggested that my pain was due to depression - duh! Chronic pain is depressing! My psychiatrist had to call him three times before this most arrogant doctor took his call; my psychiatrist's argument was simple and to the point: a) I had been depressed for some time with no pain; 2) this pain was clearly not due to depression; 3) do something! Interventions were minimal and ineffective. Gee, I thought neurasthenia as an explanation, especially for women in pain went out sometime in the 20th century. Get real, take a course in the history of women's medicine.

Completely inaccurate diagnosis and wrong treatment left me in delibating pain. Spent little time with me during initial evaluation and thought this was in my head. Went to another health center, got accurate diagnosis, and appropriate PT treatments that helped resolve a lot of my pain.

I saw Dr. Audette for a disabling back and pelvis condition from a leg length discrepancy making it difficult to walk. He had me do PT, OT, acupuncture, and sent me to a psychiatrist. I found for myself that he doesn't have the skills to assess muscularskeletal system injuries and biomechanics, and he then BLAMED me because his poor evaluation and subsequent wrong treatments made me incredibly worse. He and his staff will blame you if anything goes wrong. However, a good doctor will instead think about why something isn't working and think about what else can be done or say I don't know what's going on. Dr. Audette is insecure and is an advocate for himself and not the patient at all. I fortunately found other caring practicioners that understood structure and functional injuries and biomechanics. Two wonderful people I found was a PT that specializes in Scroth method and another PT that specializes in graston work that removes scar / fibrous tissues that results from injuries -… I am now doing incredibly better and am back to skiing and hiking.

I seen Dr. Audette for the first time for disabling back condition, and he suggested that I see a psychiatrist and recommended that I be put on psych meds and stated he will not treat me unless I stay under the care of a psychiatrist through his office. I never did see his psychiatrist, nor did I take any psych meds he prescribed, and mind you I am disable from a degenerative disc disease, and have been on strong meds for pain from my out of state doctor. I had an appointment schedule with Dr. Audette a few months back and could not keep the appointment because my legs had given out on me, and when I called to cancel his reception said they can not reschedule and that I could not be seen in that department because Dr. Audette left a note in the computer stating that. I have since decided to receive care in another health practice in which I am use to getting the quality care without crazy recommendation's from doctors at Harvard Vanguard.

What a waste, especially for people in pain, where time is of the essence because you know that every passing day without treatment is another day in pain. Basically, Joseph Audette runs you around in circles. He takes little action and when he does, its very conservative. I had spinal injections and he said to come back as soon as possible. Every appointment is at least 3-4 weeks away. When I came back weeks later, he said that he didn't think the injections would have done anything. He told me to go to a specific physical therapist, I checked her schedule and it did not work with mine. I called the office and asked what to do. A nurse said she would ask Audette and he told her I could go to any PT. I went to a different Physical Therapist for 4 weeks and THEN he told me it would be a waste of time and to stop going. And on and on the story goes. The office staff is awful, you can never get an appointment, and when you do, nothing happens. Dr. Audette went to Tufts & Harvard, seems… compassionate, but in the end, he took no action and left me with no option but to seek treatment elsewhere. Compassion isn't necessarily real. Seeing him of the most stressful experiences I have had in terms of healthcare.
