Dr. Joseph Thomas Black, MD

After many Drs. and guesswork from numerous doctors, I was finally diagnosed with a rare neurological condition by Dr. Black. I will be eternally grateful for his help.

This dr. Could not even type...discredited every dr i had ever seen...said i never had gran mal seizure because i didnt lose bowels...although many witnesses were there while having. Said low blood sugar could not cause seizure and did not care what my endo said...interupted us talking because he couldnt keep up...told me people in my county where i lived did not deserve drs....told me he never seen seizures not controlled by meds...told me for my pain in neck ibuprofen as walking out...find out i have herniated discs...called and emailed to make complaint...left messages...no one will return call...

Dr. Black was 1 and 1/2 hours late for my appointment. He was rude and disrespectful. Discrediting another neurologist from another hospital and radiologist from ordered MRIs. He even went as far to say that the Dr. from the mayo clinic were "chicken doctors".

Dr. Black was extremely rude and arrogant. He spent a whopping 5 minutes examining me while asking me to walk down his hallway. After a cursory glance, he wrote the words "conversion disorder" on his prescription pad and slipped the paper to my husband. Then he started talking about me in the third person as if I didn't exist. Needless to say, we promptly left before I told him where to put his prescription pad. In case you are wondering, I have Lyme disease and I suppose it is "in my head" as Borrelia bacteria do reside within the brain. Perhaps, if doctor Black would have listened and cared about my health, I would have received a proper diagnosis 14 years earlier before more damage was done. I would never recommend this doctor to anyone. You're better off doctoring yourself.

This man should not be allowed to practice medicine. He was not only rude...he was downright mean. I would NEVER go back to him. He is arrogant, nasty, and all but called me a liar. He did spend some time with me on the initial (and last) visit but his distasteful manner was inexcusable.

ONE VISIT TO BLACK AND I WILL NOT BE BACK. He kept me waiting for forty five minutes, did not read the three page document I prepared. He was condescending and made me run up and down a hallway while he spoke like a drill sergeant. His exact words were "if you are not falling and puking you don't have vertigo." He checked me for Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo and because I responded normally he concluded " you have no vertigo but we could try you on valium. " He debated my description of my symptoms and when I stood my ground and explained the reasoning behind my metaphor he backed down but it was clear that he did not like not being in charge. I found it utterly condescending that he asked more than once if I had anxiety. I do not now nor have I ever had trouble with anxiety. He asked me what made me wonder about a particular diagnosis. It thoroughly irritated me since if he had read the three page document it would have been patently obvious why I wondered. When I mentioned… that I had discussed my symptoms with several nurses and they, too, mentioned this particular disease, he advised me not to talk to family members about my health. In my opinion, he needs to be re-schooled in how to deal with patients and it was a colossal waste of my time and my insurance company's money. He was even so arrogant as to predict a particular outcome of a test and handed me a business card so I can call him and he can tell me once he sees the results. What a pompous jerk! I won't be calling him and will ask my referring doctor to send me to a physician who cares about their patients and knows how to talk without being offensive and insensitive.

This was one of the most thorough and competent physicians that I have ever seen. Not only was he pleasant, but he was interested in me as a person--not just a clinical specimen. His explanations were clear, nor did he "talk down" to me as many physicians tend to do. If I need further attention in his speciality, he would be my first choice. It is amazing to find such a physician like this.

I was referred to Dr. Black due go a lot of health issues. Dr. Black concluded that my health issues were not real and I was psychosomatic. Due to this, I quit trying to get help for my health problems and I saw a therapist.The therapist said she found no evidence of me having a mental problem and that I might need a second medical opinion.I got sicker and sicker, until finally (2 years later) someone suggested I get tested for Celia disease. It ends up I WAS sick and due to Dr.Black's negligence, I wasted more years of my life not knowing what was wrong.I've been gluten free for almost two years and feel almost 100%.

I had a mis diaganosis for 40 years. He took a very careful interview with me and changed my medication and for the first time in my life I got on a drug that didn't sedate me and really stopped the jerking and stabilized the seizures.Also I have suffered from depression all my life with mood swings and the medicene he put me on stabilized the mood swings and is compatable with the depression meds.He is a wonderful doctor I highly recommend him and hope he never retires.
