Dr. Joseph Burkhardt, DO

Dr. Burkhardt has done a partial knee replacement for me before, this time I had a full knee replacement. The recovery was short because of the exercises they had me do in recovery. His belief in physical therapy is also a big reason for a faster recovery. Bottom line I trust he is the best and have every confidence in him and his team.

Dr.Burkhardt is a kind and hard working surgeon. He is knowledgeable and trustworthy and his bedside manner is pleasant every time. He has done 3 surgeries for me and would recommend him highly.All of his office workers at each of the offices that he works out of are friendly and kind. I appreciate the work he has done for me. So here is the downside ... I wish he worked from a better hospital. BBC is NOT a good hospital for many reasons they should take some tips from Dr.Burkhardt’s office staff members on how to treat people.

He's a doctor that knows what he's doing I would recommend him to anyone

I hired Dr Burkhardt for a shoulder replacement. I scheduled an appointment to find out all I could about this procedure. Getting info from this surgeon is like pulling teeth. Only extremely limited and misleading info provided. I reluctantly proceeded with the surgery. The day after surgery, he poked his head in my hospital room, apparently to see if I was still alive, then snubbed me!!! No interaction at all about how the surgery went, etc. After the procedure, I found out (not from Burkhardt) that he performed an unauthorized additional procedure on me without my knowledge and consent. Apparently this additional procedure (bicep tendonesis) made his job easier, but significantly increased my pain and hindered my recovery. He would not return any phone calls (7 straight business days) about this unauthorized procedure until he was ordered to by the office manager! He tried to hide it from me!! When he wrote a prescription for pain meds, he told me it was a 5 day supply (verified… with my personal & Bronson pharmacist), but when I called for a new prescription after 5 days, he told me it was a 7 day supply, and then he needed 48 hours to write a new prescription!!! He gave me so much frustration, I voluntarily took myself off the pain meds, I was "jerked around" so much. He is pompous & arrogant, treats patients as a paycheck instead of a real person with questions and concerns. He never inspected my incision or surgical area, fitted me with a sling that was absurdly too small. I have since fired him. I would not recommend this dr to my worst enemy. My advice if you do hire him - record him, record him, record him!!!

Having been diagnosed with severe arthritis in my right hip and being weary of the pain and limitations it caused, I proceeded to shop for a surgeon. Dr. Burkhardt took the time to ask me about my lifestyle and hopes for post-surgery life. He recommend the Birmingham Hip Resurfacing procedure. Dr. Burkhardt did a good job of explaining the procedure, it's benefits, and the recovery timetable. The surgery was successful and the follow-up was good. Not only was my experience with Dr. Burkhardt positive, the work that he did on my hip has enabled me to return to running (half-marathons), hiking (Mt. Whitney summit, Grand Canyon rim to rim), tennis, golf and all other activities I used to enjoy. I have had no hip issues, and I attribute this to the procedure I had the and skill in which Dr. Burkhardt performed it. I highly recommend him.

Dr Burkhardt preformed my total knee replacement,to me he has a very good bed side manner.he answered all of my question with respect and knowledge of his art.Dr Burkhardt is going to be my go to guy for all my Ortho needs in the future. I guess one of the only things thats not great the waiting in office time.but for one of battle creeks best it's worth the wait.

I went to Dr. Burkhardt with a bad knee and four previous surgeries. He did not take time to understand me, but rather gave me a cortisone shot and sent me on my way. Knowing that something much more severe was wrong with my knee, I went back. Again I was shrugged off. I then sought out someone who could help. I found a doc in Detroit who is amazing! Turns out I had a whole slew of things wrong with my knee, all of which were fixed by a doctor who took the time to hear me out and feel my knee. I'm a happy runner again, but certainly not thanks to Dr. Burkhardt.

Went to his Marshall office. Very nice, super clean. Convenient to have xray in his office. Broken shoulder. Made diagnosis immediately. Great treatment plan. Highly recommend.
