Joseph S. Cervia, M.D., M.B.A., FAAP, FACP, FIDSA is currently Clinical Professor of Medicine and Pediatrics at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York and Medical Director and Senior Vice President for Pall Corporation. After graduating as valedictorian of his class in 1984 at New York Medical College, and completing a combined residency program in internal medicine and pediatrics in 1988, Dr. Cervia completed a fellowship in infectious diseases at the New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center in 1990. He then joined the faculty of the State University of New York, Stony Brook School of Medicine as Assistant Professor, and served as Director of the Pediatric-Maternal HIV service at Nassau County Medical Center (1990-1992), before returning to Cornell as Director of The Program for the Children with AIDS at the New York Hospital and Principal Investigator of the National Institutes of Health-sponsored Pediatric AIDS Clinical Trials Unit (1992-1999). In 1999, Dr. Cervia …joined the faculty of Albert Einstein College of Medicine, establishing and directing the Comprehensive HIV Care and Research Center at Long Island Jewish Medical Center. He was promoted to Professor of Clinical Medicine and Pediatrics at Albert Einstein in 2004.
A board-certified internist, pediatrician, adult and pediatric infectious diseases specialist, Dr. Cervia has dedicated much of his career to the care of individuals and families battling HIV and other infectious diseases, and to clinical research related to prevention, therapeutics, complicating illnesses, and quality of life issues. He has authored over 100 articles, chapters, and abstracts, lectured widely, and serves as a consultant to numerous local, national, and international organizations on HIV and infectious disease-related issues.
