Dr. Church received his M.D. degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey at Newark, New Jersey. He was trained in Pediatrics at the Children's Hospital National Medical Center, Washington D.C., and in Allergy and Immunology at Georgetown University Medical Center. In 1977, he was board certified in Pediatrics and in Allergy and Immunology; the American Board of Allergy and Immunology is a conjoint board of the American Board of Pediatrics and the American Board of Internal Medicine. Since joining the staff at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles in 1976, Dr. Church has focused his interest on children and adults with immune deficiency disorders.

I was a sickly Asthmatic child with a hopeless mother in 1979, until my mother found Dr. Warren Richards and Dr. Joseph Church. He taught me how to manage my Asthma and how to lead a productive life in spite of being ill most of the time. He stabilized me, and weaned me from the Ventilator at 16 years of age at Children's. I am a Registered Nurse, and have been for 33 years. Children's inspired me to give back what they had given to me. Dr. Church, I thank you. Your patients are so blessed to have you. I know I was. Dr. Joseph Church is the best doctor I have ever had, I am so lucky to have him as my doctor. I have many doctors treating me in Sacramento county that have no idea what they are doing, thanks to doctor Church and his letter to these doctors, I hope they understand a little more.???

Dr Church is the best Dr. I have ever worked with prior to my being disabled , I am a disabled RNBSN. He is also the best Dr. I have ever had. Extremely knowledgeable and caring. A leader in his field. I highly recommend him to all Pidd pts. He is simply the best!
