Dr. Joseph Duncan Fitterer, MD

GIRST TEST WENT SMOOTHLY AND DR, WAS WONDERFUL. SECOND HOW EVER, HE SEEMED HOSTILE, DIDN'T SPEAK TO ME AT ALL BUT TOLD MY SON I HEEDED A CHEST X RAY RIGHT AWAY. MY SON TOLD HE WAS LATE FOR A MEETING AND COULD I DO IT IN THE AFTERNOON. DR. THEN SAID WHEN EVER IT IS UP TO HER AND HE WALKED AWAY. HAD THE X RAY BUT HAVE NEVER GOTTEN ANT KIND OF REPORT. KIND OF UPSETTING.

The staff has terrible customer service skills. Every time I call to ask a question or for help it feels like it's an inconvenience and as though what I'm asking is just not possible. The ARNP instructed my husband to follow a liquid only diet for 7 days. When I called to confirm, I was told to follow the instructions given, period. When he returned to the office for a follow-up she was stunned that he hadn't had any solid food in a week, said he shouldn't have gone that long without food, then she said don't let me do that to you again. If one provider is out, and you call with an urgent problem, the other providers will not help.

This Doctor did an excellent job of the proceedure that I needed, found an excellent surgeon and followed through for several years. I picked him especially for the quality of his work.

I have had him as a doc in spokane for three years, but today was the last straw for me. After weeks of suffering pain in my upper right abdomen, throwing up bile, constant burping, elevated liver numbers, and on top of this a horrible case of strep throat, I scheduled an appointment with him. I told him my symptoms and he immediately pinned it on a mild medication he had prescribed me for my crohn's disease. I was honest with him and told him that I had forgotten to get it refilled for over a month, and before that I was very bad about taking it. He yelled at me, told me he should drop me as a patient, yet continued to say it was the medication causing my problems. After further prodding, he concluded that it was just stress because "girls get that a lot" and that i was a "big girl" and could "deal with it". He completely dismissed me and left me with no answers. I have always had my issues with his sexist and misogynistic ways (ex.calling me "princess"), but this did it for me. After… quickly researching reviews, I have seen that I am not the only one with similar issues. He needs to be fired.

This guy is horrible. His office staff are miserable. I would not refer my worst enemy to this guy. He and his office lie. I have never been treated so poorly.They did not do what they were supposed to do. His bedside manner is atrocious!

My daughter would probably have died if another gastroenterologist hadn't stepped in and done emergency surgery. For weeks, Dr. Fitterer would not pay attention to the fact that she couldn't keep any food down. When the situation got so severe, she was vomiting blood, but he still wanted to just see her at an appointment set up for about ten days later. She was so weak she couldn't speak, but in the hospital she was given a different doctor who ran the necessary tests which led to the emergency surgery that saved her. A nurse friend told me later that she wasn't surprised, since the nurses have a very low opinion of his work.

He the the worst dr on earth! He will put you on anti-depressants, instead of trying to figure out your real GI problem. He doesn't know anything and even better, doesn't care.
