Dr. Joseph Tyler Fuqua, MD

I would first want to warn anyone with children NOT to see Dr. Fuqua at UAB Primary Care in Gardendale. He is rude and ill-tempered. He is also a Travel Medicine doctor, which means when you need him most he will likely be out of cell phone contact for a week or more; treating diseases he could potentially bring back to expose to you and/or your child. (He doesn't even smile. You will not recognize him from the online photo.) And this man somehow became a pediatrician! Fuqua has been a doctor for about 3 years. He doesn't know what he's doing, and you shouldn't waste your time and money letting him learn on you or your family. Also, he will ignore your medical history and suggest that "we start from scratch". (He ignored my 10-year medical history with UAB.) Fuqua will also alter your medications without your knowledge, so you get a HUGE surprise at the pharmacy. Suddenly, the medications you have been taking for years are altered AND they cost more! His nurse will try to explain this… by saying he prescribes medicine in "a cookie-cutter fashion". Fuqua doesn't listen to anything you have to say, so don't waste your breath. He treats you as if you are imposing on him, and he has something better to do. Fuqua will even exaggerate the price level of the visit so you end up paying hundreds of dollars more than you should. You will find this out a month after the visit--and after you've complained about him to UAB, which will do you no good. (They will pretend to investigate; then try to send you to a different doctor at an inconvenient location.) Fuqua was so awful, I have to mark his name off the prescription bottles--it makes me so angry to see it. Avoid this pseudo-doctor, this UAB witch doctor, at all cost! I really hate to give it/him one star--but that is the lowest rating possible here. If you care anything about you, your health or your family, then do NOT see this quack. PS If you somehow get stuck with him, then record the conversation. He is also a liar.

He is a total Fat-Phob. I could tell him I was shot with a gun and he would tell me to lose weight because that's the reason a bullet was inside me. It's been like that and worse for 3 years!
