Dr. Joseph Robert Garza, MD

He cares a lot about his patients. He spends so much time listening to his patients and tried his best to help me as much as I could. He is so knowledgeable.

Dr. Garza is a very nice person, but I don't see him very often during 85% of my visits. To communicate with him it's done through his assistants. Then there's his office staff, the majority are VERY nice and friendly, but there are two that work at the front desk that simple lack good customer service skills. Liz I believe is the receptionist, she's somewhat nice in person, but has HORRIBLE phone etiquette, she's very short & dismissive. It's almost as if you are bother her when you call. I don't know the name of the young lady that takes the payment, but OMGosh! She simply looks absolutely miserable! Never smiles rarely says hello & NEVER says thank you or have a nice day. None of which I feel are asking for too much. A friend of mine was also seeing Dr. Garza, but left him to see another specialist, she also said she had the same experience.

The two times I visited Dr Garza, I was the first appointment. For both of the visits he was over an hour late, using the same excuse that he was stuck in traffic. Just leave earlier! On the appointment where is told he told me about the results, I had the terrible feeling that I knew more ad did better research then him. He told me thing that I knew were untrue or just simplified true. He also felt the need to share his political ideas with me, uncomfortable and unnecessary!

Can't say enough good things about this office, the staff are amazing, knowledge, kind, and patient. Dr Garza took time to explain to my husband and I our options, his thoughts, and the plan he want's to follow. Communication with the office is SUPER easy with their online portal and every time I've called or been called the person has answered my questions and take time to explain what was happening.

Only out to make money. Does not have patient's best interest at heart.

Ultrasound technician and nurses are very efficient and friendly. Dr. Garza and certain staff will be another story. Every time I had a meeting with Dr. Garza the tech and nurses would give me the most attention. They would ask me to change for the Dr. I would end up waiting with my feet up for 20 to 30 minutes (my first appointment it was almost 45 minutes, which made the whole appointment close to 2 hours). I should have just left. Dr. never spent more than 5 minutes in the room with me and gave me zero instruction on medications he was prescribing. I even called later after the pharmacist told me to take the medication as little as possible for clarification and the Dr. said take it whenever I feel nausea (which was all the time), it is a pregnancy class B drug and it says on the website Dr. is supposed to tell you the risk. When I told him I wasn't going to take it for my hypermesis, because of the class action lawsuit he just looked at me and said nothing. I was never told what… would happen at the next appointment, so I asked when is the next ultrasound so my husband could see the baby and the Dr. said next appointment. Luckily I asked, I had no idea I would be receiving an ultrasound at every appointment. Last appointment at 11 weeks, everyone started to ask me if I had an OB and I said no and they said Dr. Garza doesn't treat past 12 weeks. Which it is fine to have that policy, but it would have been best if he or anyone could have informed me of that before my last appointment. I was just going to keep this to myself, but I have had to contact the office recently to get my medical records sent over to another specialty Dr. for a consult. One of the office workers was very rude on the second phone call, in which I was following up to see if the records had been transferred yet and wondered if my original fax to them had gone through. It had been 3 days since I sent in my request and my other healthcare professional had attempted to fax the medical records on the first day to the new Dr., but they had not gone through. On this call, the office worker said it would take 2 weeks to get the records transferred (I had just spoke with the same person on the first call and would have totally understood this policy and could have let the other doctor know if they had only let me know). Then I asked her to add my appointment time and date, so that the new Dr. would be able to connect my appointment and records (request by the new Dr. and a simple attachment would do). She seemed very annoyed that I was asking for her to attach that. Then she got even more mad and said well what group is the Dr. with, I said I don't know I haven't seen this Dr. yet. So I said I would look it up and I did a quick Google search to find it for her. I looked over the original fax request and no where on the form did it say that I needed to have the group the doctor was with, but I had included the fax number twice. I didn't bring up that fact, because I didn't want to make her even more mad at what could have been a simple follow-up issue. They are so terrible at communication, if you have policies about something just let me know up front or don't get so irate when I ask you a simple request and am following up. I don't like to leave only negative remarks, Dr. Garza did have fast appointment times, it was nice to have an ultrasound machine in the office for medical reasons, and I do think the amount of blood work was necessary to help maintain the pregnancy. The nurses and techs were prompt even if Dr. Garza wasn't. They were efficient with their prescriptions, although when you needed to ask questions it often took more than a day to get back to me.

I was Dr. Garza's patient, but haven't seen him for 2.5 years. Yesterday morning I noticed I got pregnant and was so excited to try to make an appointment. At 12:30pm, I called his office and a girl told me to just show up before 3:00pm to get the blood work. I asked her if I should see Dr. Garza first, and she said no and Dr. Garza could not see me before the confirmation of my pregnancy from my blood work. So I take the half day off from the work, drove 30 miles and went to Dr. Garza's office. But the girl at the front checked my insurance and my ID and told me I could not have my blood work before I see Dr. Garza since their policy is if I haven't seen Dr. Garza for 3 years, I need to be considered as a new patient and see Dr. Garza first. I told her I haven't seen the doctor for less than 3 years and also the phone I talked with the girl and she still said no. Then another girl showed up saying their policy is ONE year, not 3 years. I have to leave without doing anything!… Anyway, Rule 1: Don't call the office, because right information will not be guaranteed. Rule 2: Don't stop by the office, because you will get different information from different person. Rule 3: You will not Dr. Garza anyway. Very bad experience.
