Dr. Joseph Patrick Griffin Jr, MD

Doctor runs the "Osteoporosis Testing Center". Note "testing", not "treatment". Doctor is not not knowledgeable about this condition, but just tries to put patients on the standard Big Pharma prescriptions, rather than investigate potential causes of problem. The use of prescriptions he recommends are of very questionable value in the long term. In fact, they cause serious inflammatory and other problems in many patients. Griffin is rude. His office's patient paperwork asks political questions! He does not cooperate well with other doctors! He is a disgrace to his profession.

I have been seeing Dr. Griffin for over 20 yrs. He was the only Dr taking patients at the time Improved here. I haven't found a reason to switch. My care is rather complicated, he handles it rather well. I have seen some of his NP's. Most I liked, One I will only see except as an emergency, she is very arrogant and I don't feel she knows her stuff all that well. He has been sending me to specialist as I needed them, not trying to do something that maybe a specialist could do better. I am not thrilled about the $75 annual "fee". I understand it is done since once again Medicare payments to doctors have been cut back. I have never had an issue with any of the staff, all have been friendly. Some days they are super busy, some not so bad. I know I have messed up their routine days by having bad asthma attacks in the office. All were there immediately to help and kept me so my body could settle down after all the medications I had been given. I was always called the next do for a check up n… if I needed to be seen. Whenever I have any special testing or blood work done I receive calls as soon as possible about the results. He does trust me to know when something is not right, I need a special blood test, won't overdo it with as needed medications.

I feel it is time for Dr.Griffin to retire. I recently had an appointment and he was once again rude. I am not sure why I chose to go back to him, I guess I thought I would give him another chance. It appears his office is always in turmoil, he had two really great nurse practitioners and now they are gone. He then added Dr.Yates and now she is gone. It seems like there is a lot of chaos in that office. Too much trouble for what its worth, certainly not worth paying him a fee!

Needed to find a new physician as the old doctor quit his practice last year. I went and filled out the required paperwork and submitted it and was told that a appointment would be setup once my records were received. The appointment was scheduled and I went, they didn't have my records yet so was a waste of time----but they did bill medicare and got paid for the visit. A office person called sometime later and asked if I wanted to reschedule a visit with a different nurse practioner since the one I'd seen before had quit and we scheduled a second visit. Again when I went in they still had not received my medical records and the visit was a waste of my time but they billed medicare and got paid. The nurse practioner did insist that I get a blood test work up so that she would have more information when they finally did receive my records by the next visit. She said she would call and schedule a visit after the records arrived. She also stated that every year they charged a… $75 fee for a discussion about a "living will" that medicare didn't pay for but was directing them to have with patients. When I objected as I already had a attorney set that up for me and didn't feel a nurse was the qualified individual to conduct that discussion I was informed that it was not a "choice" that was up to me. This whole situation has become stressful to me----I felt they are bullying patients into their protocol to ensure their office is profitable and not all that concerned with the patients overall well being it seems. Yes I did call medicare and asked whether they imposed the "living will" annual discussion on doctors to carry out with patients. They stated that no such requirement was imposed by them. Never will go back----it's the most inflexible attitude toward patient care I've ever encountered and the staff is belligerent if questioned about their protocols. I still have to pay for blood tests that they ordered that medicare will not pay for as they coded them as not essential-----my question then is why order them if they aren't "essential" as they pass the cost onto the patient. Or at the very least explain to the patient up front what tests specifically they are ordering that their insurer isn't willing to pay for that is indicated as being helpful in treating you as a patient and what the costs will be. I didn't see Dr. Griffin only the nurses but I can only assume he is aware of and approves the protocols his staff is carrying out.

I have been seen in Dr. Griffin's office off and on for the last three years. I have never seen him, but I have seen many of his NPs. I recently went back after a great deal of frustration at other offices and I have to say I should have just kept looking. I will saw that although I do think his NPs are nice, I just cannot continue to go there. The $75 (let me be your doctor fee) is completely crazy. The reason for the fee doesn't even apply to me (I'm 28). Second, they give a diagnosis based on what they read in their pretty little mini doctor books they carry around and do not actually give any real assistance other than "try this pill". I feel like the system is broke and he doesn't care as long as his bills are getting paid. Further, they are trying to code things differently to obtain more money from their patients who are already strapped by the economy and the $75 fee. They care more about getting money than providing medical care to their patients.

Dr. Griffin requires you to pay $75.00 to have a living will discussion with him even if you already have a living will. It appears to be a way to generate more income

I took my great grandmother, who is 99 years old, to see Dr. Griffin and he wouldn't even accept her as a patient because she angered him when she said that her minister prays for her and she believes it helps her health. The staff was extremely rude. I have never met a more arrogant egotistical doctor. I understand that people have different beliefs, but come on, she's 99 she didn't know it would offend him.

I looked all over the area for a Doctor who specializes in older people. Dr.Griffin is kind, considerate and really cares about his patients. I felt very comfortable with him. I felt he was very smart as well and highly recommend him.
