Dr. Joseph Gerard Harman, MD

Dr Harman did a great job on my left eye cataract. Still waiting for my right. His surgery scheduler in Springfield is outstanding and his assistant in Bloomington is excellent and helpful. Lifesavers! Really helped me with my vision.

My opthalmologist moved on and they transferred my records to Gaileys. I have been having some problems with haze in bright sunlight and wanted to rule out there was anything wrong with my artificial lenses. I also have a degenerative eye disease to which the staff acted like they had never been exposed to someone with this disease before. They were not courteous or empathetic to my needs (I also carry a guide cane). They had me performing tests that if they had an ounce of clue, would've realized they would be fruitless. When asked if they had looked at my patient records, they informed me they were probably still in the basement and would only be merged with my current records. This was all before the doctor came in. Now, to the doctor...he was very callous and abrasive. Was not empathetic at all to my visual impairment. Advised me to see my family physician about eye pain. Wait...aren't YOU the eye doctor? Spent a total 5 minutes with me and the majority of that was looking into my… eyes. I will never go back. Total time spent at the facility was almost 2 hours. 5 minutes was with the actual doctor. I wouldn't recommend this facility if my eyes were popping out.

My experience with Dr Harman and the Gailey Eye Clinic was excellent. Dr Harman spent a lot of time with me explaining my diagnosis of cataract. He performed cataract surgery on my eyes, and I couldn't be happier. I see great and his bedside manner was also great. I would highly recommend him.

Didn't see the need to explain to me what he thought was wrong, or what he planned to do about it. First he dilated, then wanted undilated, then wanted to dilate again while telling me there was nothing wrong except for "a little glaucoma". But, he wouldn't or couldn't explain the flashes I was seeing.
