Dr. Joseph Buchanan Hawkins, MD

Dr. Hawkins treats both my husband (the Ankylosing spondylitis) and me - thyroid. He is careful and intelligent- ordering appropriate tests and great at explaining the results. He is on top of the medical issues and positive in instructions.

I missed my appointment, I was charged 50 bucks. They didn't even ask me why I missed my appointment. I know that my schedule should have been given to someone else so the doctor's time would not be wasted. In my experience, the doctor don't see you at the actual time of your appointment! Good thing there are other doctors in my area. Their policy is stupid.

I called this office with a PPO insurance plan because they were in my network. They would not see me as a patient becuase they said I needed a "Medical" referral and diagnosis to see this doctor. Well, the reason you go to a "Specialist" is to get a diagnosis. If the other docots you have seen do not know about Endocrinology, they can not make a diagnosis. This is absolutely moronic. If a patient dies because this doctor will not see them, then you share the blame. Dumb policy.

dr Hawkins has his office streamlined for the benefit of the patient. He has excellent assistants, esp Al. Tilly will make you laugh at the front desk. The md will straighten out the most complicated thyroid problems. He knows all the latest in osteoporosis.Hes a marvelous doctor.

A very good doctor. He explains to you in common English you can understand. Although I have a parathyroid that has to come out he knows a very good specialist that can do the surgery from a 1" incision in the neck. The wait time for me to get an appointment was about 2.5 months.A long wait but remember that he's only 1 doctor and he can only see so many people a day. If you want the best your going to have to wait

I wish all doctors were like Dr. Hawkins! Great knowledge, explains fully in "laymans terms," takes as much time as is needed, fine individual as well.
