Dr. Joseph T Hayes, MD

Dr Hayes was invited to be a member of our hospital community because of his unique skills and tracing in pain medicine and addiction medicine. His office is extremely clean and modern since it comes under yearly DOH and JCAHO inspection. He operates a very unique practice. He only accepts physician referrals for consultation. He treats some of the most complex pain and opioid addiction cases. He has been instrumental in guiding public health, educators and LE /courts in dealing with the opiate crisis over the las 15 years. Montgomery County is lucky to have him. He spends a great deal of time with his patients. He is available 24/7. I have been able to contact on weekends and holidays. He never takes a break. Much of addiction medicine services are not covered by insurance . To allow accessibility to his practice fees are kept very reasonable. He has highly qualified staff to maximize quality and oversight. He does have very strict protocols regarding compliance with his… patients. He was very compassionate with me I know at all times he is concerned about patient safety and best outcomes. Our hospital community has had nothing but very positive feedback from patients and hospital medical staff. I feel blessed to have been his patient and I am glad he is a part of our hospital community.

Immediately upon becoming a patient, the office manager was rude and made me feel like dirt. She was condescending, obnoxious and seemed annoyed to have to help me. As treatment continued, she would contact me and talk to me like she was in charge. It was almost like Dr. Hayes didn’t want to speak to patients himself and gave her the responsibility to talk to patients about their medications, treatment and side effects. I don’t think she has the credentials to have these conversations and I never gave her the permission to speak with me about these things. When I would tell her I preferred to speak with the doctor, she would become even more rude. Initially, Dr. Hayes was great. He took his time with me and seemed to really care. However, as time went on, I started to feel like just a dollar sign to him as well. I’m also pretty sure that he answers to his office manager. They made me pay cash for every visit (and it was extremely expensive) and made me come every two weeks. On my… second visit, the office manager tried to charge me $25 more than what I was quoted to begin with! When I questioned it, she looked flustered and said it was a mistake. This led me to believe they charge different patients different amounts...shady! Additionally, I was told the part of the fee was for the urine screens that were conducted at every visit. However, shortly after asking to discontinue treatment, I received a bill from the lab that does the screens for a lot of money. So I am assuming they decided not to pay the lab for my screens that I paid for through them since I no longer wanted to be a patient with them and decided to make them bill me for it. When I asked to discontinue treatment, I was harassed as well. When I started seeking treatment with them, I didn’t give permission for them to contact me with personal treatment information in any way except my cell phone. Dr Hayes proceeded to send me letters in the mail and email with inappropriate treatment information and they were very rude as well. I told him my treatment was private and that I was keeping it from my family and it felt like he was sending letters that my family could see in order to get revenge for me leaving their practice. Also, the office space itself is just plain disgusting! It grossed me out as it was dirty, messy and looked unsanitary! Please save yourself the money and humility and avoid this “practice” at all costs!!!

Have a cousin with bulimia and several damaged disks in her body, Total pain to the point of not even eating properly. Looked like a skeleton / skull and white as a ghost. After seeing her about 6 months later she looked like herself again. Dr. Hayes did a fantastic job, basically saving her life in my opinion. Highly recommended for pain Mngt. and getting off addiction of pain medication also.

I have suffered with chronic back pain for years. I bounced from one doctor to another. All they wanted to do was give me large doses of opiates or give me needle injections. I went to 3 large prestigious medical centers in Philadelphia. One talked me into an Intrathecal pump . This put opioids directly into my brain. It work for awhile but the pain became worse and I became addicted to the opiods. There was nothing that anyone could due . I was finally referred to Dr Hayes since he is and certified in advanced pain managed and Board certified in addiction medicine. In a course of a year I was off opioids and my pain was significantly reduced .I got my life back. On the negative side his staff is a little curt and it is difficult to get an appointment but once you are a patient he is very easy to contact and always responsive to phone calls and texts. ER

Horrible!! Rude and condescending to patents. Doesn't listen to what you have to say and gets offended when you do! The secretary is rude and obnoxious also. All this guy wants to do is collect insurance money and string you along without treating you. I wouldn't trust this person to treat a goldfish. Do yourself a favor and avoid this clown at all costs.

After going to all of the large pain centers in Philadelphia I finally went to Dr Hayes. He made the Diagnosis in 5 minutes. All they wanted to do was give me opiates. Dr Hayes treated me without opiates. Then my insurance company did not want to cover my benefits. Since Dr Hayes had experience defeating the largest insurance company in the USA he knew how to navigate my health plan to get my medical care covered. he is a remarkable man.

After years of going to dozens of doctors, Dr Hayes was the only doctor that spent the time to figure out what was wrong with me. He gave me proper treatment without opiates and I finally have my life back. I am now back to work. There is no waiting in his waiting room but an appointment is hard to get. He is very compassionate but the staff is just a little curt. Overall a great experience

From the receptionist to the physician, this was a bad experience from the very beginning. Tried charging me for services that were never performed. Wanted cash payments. Proper and ethical treatment was not the priority of this office.

we in public health and regulatory affairs are very skeptical of aim physicians who have a preponderance of happy happy patients. This usually means the doctor is over prescribing opiates. There are also patients who give or sell their meds to other people. That is illegal. A doctor must stop prescribing to that individual. Dr Hayes has shown a great deal of integrity by doing the right thing desite a vindictive review by a diverted as illustrated below. We in the regulatory community applaud Dr Hayes for taking the initiative to practice medicine which benefits the community and solving the epidemic of opiate abuse.
