Had mitral valve surgery last Monday. Dr. Lamelas and team were wonderful.

I traveled to St Lukes saw Dr Lamellas he performed bypass surgery the following week of my visit, no complications, all went well hospital staff and his office staff excellent. If I would not have gone and have bypass done would have had my quality of life back.

I had to have cardiovascular surgery 6 months ago and my cardiologist recommended Dr. Lamelas @ St. Luke's Hosp. in Houston. I will give a "brief" synopsis of my experience. On the day of my consult his Nurse Practitioner (who also happens to be his wife) spent more time w/ me than he did. When he did come in to see me and explained what he wanted to do he was very matter of fact and aloof. I should have trusted my gut and never allowed him to perform my surgery. Immediately post-op I suffered serious complications that continued for 3 days...I never saw Dr. Lamelas, only his resident and his wife. Due to the complications I was in the hospital for 6 days (it was only supposed to be overnight). I finally saw him the day I was discharged. When I tried to talk to him about what happened it was obvious to me and my family that he wasn't interested in hearing what I had to say. He cut me off mid-sentence and said "complications happen, you're fine now so just get past it and move on". … It's hard to "move on" when you realize that the doctor you trusted with your life doesn't care about you as a person. I was nothing more than "just another surgery" to him. Dr. Lamelas is hindered from being a better surgeon/physician/man by being so mechanical and quite frankly cold/uncaring. He has lost the ability to connect w/ his patients or show that he cares and that has blinded him to seeing what his patients are going through thereby losing their trust and confidence. Because of my experience w/ Dr. Lamelas, I see doctors through different eyes now, eyes that no longer trust them and are jaded.

I had a valve repair in 2011 at Mt. Sinai. I was given an anaesthetic at 7:30 a.m. and Dr. Lamelas performed the surgery at 1:30p.m.! He eyeballed (probably) the Medtronic ring which was definitely too small at 1.55cm. Furthermore the phrenic nerve to the diaphragm was paralyzed after the surgery and I have no use of my diaphragm. While in hospital there was bleeding from the incision and gunk collected into my lung which was not removed. It’s still there! I had need of oxygen while still in hospital, and I’ve been on oxygen ever since. At this point I need a valve replacement.

As an ex-patient, like his ambassador I was recommending Dr Lamelas and his team of doctors to everyone looking for THE best possible surgeon specialized in minimally invasive surgery. He and his team of doctors in Miami were the best I could have asked for !!! those that judge him for his bedside manners or for having had to wait for him - are the type of superficial patients that are best NOT to have as patients. I AM so thankful he was MY surgeon !

I will be thanking him all my life for giving me not only health but life.

I was reading the comments about Dr. Lamelas and I don't understand how some people can rate a doctor with bad reviews because he doesn't have good bedside manners or the wait time to see him is long . This doctor is a genius and thanks to him my husband was back putting up hurricane shutters only after 3 weeks after minimal invasive aortic aneurysm repair with aortic valve replacement. The guy is a genius and my husband is leaving a very happy and healthy life and I thank god everyday for putting Dr. Lamelas in our path . By the way we went to see 3 other heart surgeons and they all wanted to crack my husband 's chest open
