Dr. Joseph Fedele Mazza, MD

Although I did not expect Mazza to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear, I did expect to look improved after the procedure. Sadly, this was not the case, plus I now have to live with discomfort that I did not have prior to surgery. I went to Mazza for a procedure considered "medically necessary" which would have been covered by insurance if it had been performed in the hospital. However, he described the disfigurement the "medically necessary" procedure would cause and recommended that I have an additional cosmetic procedure performed for an ascetically superior result. For this I was to pay him $4,700 in cash plus an anesthesia fee of $750 payable by check to a third party. His reason for not using the pre-approved insurance coverage was that his ambulatory surgical center is not accepted by insurance companies, and to have the additional cosmetic procedure performed in the hospital would cost me more. The results were beyond disappointing, leaving me not only looking worse than… when I entered, but also having discomfort where before I had none. When I returned hoping this problem could be resolved, he agreed it looked bad, and quickly left the room. He had his assistant come in to offer his recommendations: the first costing an additional $6,300, and the second costing an additional $9,300.
