Dr. Joseph Michael Mule, MD

Dr. Mule was my surgeon for a colon resection due to diverticulitis, some years ago. I recently had a colonoscopy. After the procedure, my Dr. said to me, “I know you told me you had a resection but I couldn’t tell by looking at it. The surgeon did such a great job!” No scar tissue, nothing to indicate surgery. That tells me a lot!

Dr. Mule was very friendly and informative about my surgery. Made me confident going into the surgery. Recovering now and no complications from the surgery. Great surgeon.

Great bedside manner. gives full explanations. Rated by staff as top surgeon and was with my surgery. Does everything in an orderly manner.

After I came down from the anesthetic, after my surgery, Dr. Mule, was not around to interview me. I was informed "the doctor has left the building".A receptionist from the Surgery Center (this center is NOT Dr. Mule's office, but where the surgery was performed), called me every so often to see how I was doing...I asked her if she was an R.N. and she said "no, I am a receptionist"!!!!Dr. Mule's office NEVER CALLED ME during the post surgery recovery period.Two days before I expected to run out of the pain meds, I called his office to report that the meds were running low. Dr. Brandau, (a female physician) was on call that evening, DID NOT RETURN MY THREE CALLS, trying to get a new prescription....And of course, Dr. Mule never called me.The following three days, I called Dr. Mule's office, requesting a new prescription...The staff reported that they were leaving messages for Dr. Mule. I also called the Costco Pharmacy, who also faxed the prescription request to the Dr.'s… office...Nothing happened. No response!I ran out of meds, but on day 5, had an appointment with Dr. Mule at 9:30 am. I arrived at 9:10, and two people had signed in ahead of me.I saw Dr. Mule walk into the office at 9:45! I was called into see the Dr. at about 12:00!!!!And people who arrived long after I had, were being called in for their appointments.I met a man who had been under Dr. Mule's care for over a year, and he told me Dr. Mule is chronically late for his appointments. He said "once I saw Dr. Mule arrive half an hour late, and I thought 'oh, the Dr. is early' ."When you finally see Dr. Mule, he WILL give you plenty of time to discuss your situation.Dr. Mule will NEVER have his staff give you follow up calls.Dr. Mule is not timely with his appointments.When I called the office to renew my prescription, I did not appreciate his office receptionist (who is not an R.N., or a CNA) speaking to me like she possessed a medical degree. I had to remind her that "I take medical advise from my doctor, I don't believe that you are qualified to render medical advise".A few months after my surgery, I can report that all appears to be well. But while Dr. Mule is quite professional when you do get the opportunity to dialogue with him, his lackadaisical attitude, as I have outlined, would cause me question any future use of his services.

This surgeon is awesome - he has done two surgeries for two different family members. He is very good about explaining procedures, providing education and following up - I could not be more pleased. I recommend him very highly! You can trust his judgment and that means a lot.
