Dr. Joseph Benjamin Noland, MD

I had a very distressing follow-up appointment with Dr. Noland after a five-day hospitalization. I came in needing help with medication refills, leave paperwork, and follow-up imaging for an adrenal nodule found on my hospital CT. I tried to explain that my concern was the fragmentation of my care and the difficulty of coordinating issues involving several providers. During the discussion, I felt repeatedly interrupted and spoken to in a defensive and condescending manner. One disagreement involved my leave paperwork. Dr. Noland stated that another provider had already completed my FMLA paperwork and said the documentation had been written by GI. He then pulled up a document in my chart. I clarified that it was a regular hospital work note, not the Hartford FMLA paperwork I was requesting, and that it had been written by a hospitalist rather than GI. In response, he emphasized that he had been doing his job for a long time and knew the difference. When I attempted to continue… clarifying the situation, he told me to stop interrupting him. I then stopped speaking and shook my head while listening because I disagreed with what was being said. He responded, “You can shake your head all you want.” I felt placed in a situation where both verbally correcting inaccurate information and silently expressing disagreement were treated as disrespectful. The interaction felt hostile and intimidating rather than collaborative. He also repeatedly focused on my previous request for possible future leave, while I was attempting to explain that my current request concerned an actual five-day hospitalization. When I asked how unpredictable intermittent leave might be estimated for a condition such as migraines, he initially said the comparison was irrelevant, then explained that leave would be based on a documented pattern. When I asked about medication refills, he shook his head and said in a tone I perceived as sarcastic, “Oh, I suppose they told you to follow up with me for that too.” They had, and being repeatedly redirected between providers was the exact concern I was attempting to explain. He later repeatedly told me that the situation was not my fault and said he would complete the paperwork and submit the refills. I was also concerned by how the appointment ended. At the beginning of the visit, Dr. Noland discussed the adrenal nodule and indicated that an MRI might be the better imaging option. After the conversation became increasingly tense, he left the room without personally completing that discussion. His nurse later returned and told me that a CT had been ordered instead. When I asked about the earlier MRI discussion, she had to leave and clarify the plan with him. She returned and said that he wanted to begin with a CT and go from there. He did not return to explain the change directly. Although my paperwork was ultimately completed, my refills were submitted, and imaging was ordered, I left feeling unheard and intimidated. I immediately requested to transfer to another primary care provider. This was the most upsetting healthcare encounter I have experienced.

What a terrible experience from a DR. Office that clearly has no compassion, honesty, common sense or integrity. I Started seeing a DR. at this location a few years ago. Dr Yeager, and he was great. However he only worked from that location one day a week so it was hard to schedule appointments, so he had me begin seeing a Nurse Practitioner that worked directly with him, Jennifer Scott. She was also fantastic. However she retired at the end of 2024 (I was not made aware of this). I called to schedule a new appointment in January 2025 and it was then told to me that she retired. They were not able to find a date to set with Dr. Yeager so they told me I would be treated as a "New Patient" and they set an appointment for April with Dr Noland. I wasn't thrilled about having to wait almost 4 months when I have diabetes, but was told I had no other options. As I waited through the months I had a gastrointestinal issue arise that was causing significant pain and discomfort. I called to… attempt to get in earlier and explained my issues. I was told by the office that there was no way I could get in any earlier and they suggested I go to the emergency room, or Urgent Care or another doctor if I needed any treatment prior to April. I did exactly as they told me and went to Urgent care and then when follow ups were needed after the initial care for the gastrointestinal issue, I was again told Dr. Noland couldn't see me any sooner so I went to another doctor for this issue as directed. Once resolved I simply waited for my April appointment for regular care. Then, less than two days before my appointment, I received a message in the 'My Chart' portal saying they have canceled my appointment. I called to learn that they said they were canceling it because I had seen another Doctor and they were no longer interested in seeing me. I explained the situation in detail and explained I did what they told me, and had no desire to add that Dr. as my primary care physician. They still told me they were, quote, "Doubling Down" and will not schedule any appointments with Dr. Noland. I asked for Dr Yeager or any other Dr. and I was just told no one would see me. I explained that I have been waiting since January and have medications and needs around my diabetes. I was told they have no appetite to help in anyway since I saw another Doctor. So now, with great needs I'm stuck at square one, now looking for another Dr to start over with. This treatment and decision are unbelievable and show the lack of commonsense and integrity. I would not recommend this office or Dr. Noland as he/they appear to be vindictive (I guess he saw it as a slight that I saw another Doctor, even though that is exactly what his office told me to do), and dishonest. I left further messages to discuss and work through this for better understanding and all messages have been ignored. Truth is, I cant imagine seeing a Doctor with such a lack of compassion or working with his office that is strongly incompetent and uncaring. I would think twice before trusting these people with your medical needs.

DR Noland used to be an amazing doctor! Easy to talk to and really listened, that was what set him apart, he really seemed to care. But now that he is a Team Ortho Doc for the Kansas City Royals his patients suffer from it. He is always in a hurry, and he seems uninterested. Your in and out in less than 10 mins, and that includes shots in your knees too. He's even been called out in the middle of my appointment to answer a call to do with a Kansas City Royals Player, ( he rushed me thru my appointment and bragged about him rushing off to take care of a player. ) I've actually been billed for procedures I've never had and a few a year after the procedure. I can only assume its sloppy record keeping. I love our Kansas City Royals and I too am a team player but if I come to his office to be seen then it is " I " who should get his undivided attention.
