Dr. Joseph Dean Parkhurst, MD

Over the years, Dr. Parkhurst has been most aggressive in reviewing and taking steps to correct my prostate problems. Thanks to such efforts, I continue to be healthy with no serious problems.

Dr was in network The req'd blood test in his office was not in network I got a bill 4 months later for about $1300. Dr's staff just shrugged. Unethical that I was not informed that in house blood work was not covered by my ins.

My son saw him for kidney stones.....terrible experience. Rude office staff and not return calls after procedure.

Does a good job and has always put me on a course to correct my situation. I have known him for 25 years.

Dr. Parkhurst has the best bed side manor and quickly resolves my issues.

Initially was referred to him by my GP for Testosterone (T) threrapy. However, I learned from Parkhurst that I had BPH (prostate felt normal other than enlarged), elevated PSA (21.6) and a very high Testosterone (1,800) count (currently was under T therapy from GP). He ordered several tests and took me off T therapy. Once tests were back he put me on antibiotics for a month to help lower PSA. Stated if PSA didn't go below 4, he wanted to do a needle biopsy to rule out cancer. Month later, PSA came real close (4.5) but did not go below 4. He wanted to do a needle biopsy. I didn't so he agreed to do another month of antibiotics. But wanted my PSA to be 2.5 or less. Month later PSA was 3.5, which is considered to be in normal range. He wanted to do a needle biopsy. I never went back. A visit with my GP three months later my PSA was 2.5. I had several visits with Parkhurst regarding my prostate and T therapy, which he did agree to me being placed back on T therapy due to it being quite low… but in normal range. Yes from 1,800 to 314. During my visits with him, his staff didn't appear to be happy working there. For the most part they are rude and don't seem to have time for you. You can tell his nurse tries to be nice but isn't happy. One of the main things that really bothered me about Parkhurst is, every time I see him, his nurse has to find things in my chart for him. He would always ask her where is this, where is that. Makes me wander. About the only thing I feel confident, I think, when he performs a DRE (the finger). Being in practice as long as he has, he had to have felt NUMEROUS prostates. Which anyone familiar with prostate issues knows currently the only best way to determine if you have a healthy or unhealthy prostate is a DRE. Parkhurst is a good listener and will work with you, which I liked. Other than what I previously mentioned of what bothered me (chart), the other is his approach to treatment. I got the strong sense he was being a little aggressive (needle biopsy) for the wrong reasons (money). After all, he is in business like ALL physicians to make money. I believed he was putting his business over my personal health. He was trying to push the "pellets" (under skin) for T therapy. I didn't bite.

A real quack. Rude staff. They deliberately overbook and keep you waiting.

Very very friendly and easy to talk to listens to all your problems and not like most doctors who try to rush and are in and out...sits sown with you and explains everything...he is one of the best doctors I have seen in a very long time...alot of doctors need to be more like him and act like the actually care about you!
