Dr. Joseph Richard Payne, MD

I had Mohs surgery performed by Dr Payne. He was very thorough and explained the procedure in detail before we began. The operation was painless and thorough. After the procedure, he carefully explained post-operative care and gave me a prescription for pain medication if it became necessary. I had no delay upon checking in and the entire process took less than 90 minutes. I was very satisfied with the entire experience. My wife recommended him to me as she has also had excellent care as his patient.

Doctor Payne is amazing and highly skilled. He has a great personality and really takes time with his patients. I also referred him to my daughter and my best friend and they are very happy too. I highly recommend him.

Dr Payne has a good bedside manner. Is very pleasant. I’ve been going to this practice for 25 yrs. I was disappointed w/my last yearly visit. 3 raised dark spots were missed on my back. He only removed the ones I pointed out. I returned the next day to have those spots removed. I had one very tiny mole that I probably could have removed w/a thread. He snipped it put a small band-aid on & charged me $100! When I addressed this huge charge & asked for a more reasonable amount he refused. I offered $50. which is still high. So beware & I advise you to ask what the charge will be prior to the treatment.

Dr. Payne seems very professional and experienced. Unfortunately, this practice seems poorly organized. No one could tell me how to access the patient portal. It took three calls to schedule a basic treatment (phototherapy). I learned more about phototherapy procedures and precautions online (eg, UVa hospital website) than from this practice. I would avoid this practice.
