Joseph Rowe IIi, MD

Joseph Rowe III, MD, FACS - a board-certified cardiothoracic surgeon - joined BCH’s Boulder Heart in January 2026. With more than two decades of experience, his clinical expertise spans the full spectrum of adult cardiac and thoracic surgery, including complex valve repair and replacement, aortic root and arch surgery, coronary revascularization (CABG), and minimally invasive and robotic thoracic procedures.
Using both traditional surgery and the latest minimally invasive techniques, Dr. Rowe is committed to surgical excellence, innovation and education. With a strong patient-centered care philosophy, he is also known for taking the time to listen to his patients and for helping them understand their treatment options so they can make the best-informed decisions.
Dr. Rowe most recently served as an attending surgeon at the Carilion Clinic Cardiothoracic Surgery and Aortic Center (Virginia) and a faculty member at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine. He is also the …surgical founder of the Carilion Clinic Structural Heart Program and was co-surgical director of the Carilion Clinic Aortic and Endovascular Center.
As a leader in transcatheter valve therapy, Dr. Rowe has performed more than 1,300 TAVR procedures using all major access approaches. He also has extensive experience in advanced aortic endovascular techniques, ECMO, hybrid procedures, and surgical management of complex cardiothoracic disease.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Rowe is actively involved in clinical research, quality improvement initiatives, and medical education. He has served as a primary or co-investigator on multiple national clinical trials and has published in peer-reviewed medical journals. He is board certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
Outside of work, Dr. Rowe is an avid reader and dog lover who enjoys hiking, cycling and skiing.
