Dr. Joseph Francis Stowell, MD

This kind of ‘doctor’ is why we avoid Southampton ER unless we have no other options. He was aggressive, snide and downright hostile. He discussed insurance with a bleeding patient and ridiculed him. Literally laughing and shaking his head. He isn’t qualified, apparently, to cover many medical issues and left the bleeding patient alone for over an hour. Eventually, he confessed he didn’t know how to treat the patient and said he would have to go to Stonybrook over an hour away. We understand it’s difficult to staff hospitals these days, but this person should not be pretending to treat patients. I’m sure he’ll send us an outrageous bill, since none of the hospital doctors accept any insurance. Gotta make those boat payments.

Horrible bedside manner. I was in the ER for a potentially serious heart issue. Dr.Stowell came in and told me that he was “not comfortable with my having an open line of communication” while he was in the room. I am currently suffering from and being treated for severe anxiety and upon being told by this doctor that I was not allowed to have a cellphone in the room I said that I was not comfortable not having my phone with me and he told me it’s fine to leave because “no one is forcing you to be here”. Absolutely horrible. Shame on Southampton Hospital for hiring someone like this. I understand that as a patient with anxiety I am not the *easiest* to deal with but I have never in my life had an experience this bad with a doctor. If you cannot speak to people nicely and put the patients comfort first you should not be in medicine.

Probably the most unprofessional jerk I've ever spoken to.

He is scary, angry and extremely abusive Not to mention he demands you take all your cloths off for any reason you are in the E.R all your cloths but this only applies to women, or in his words "I will not treat you so take your panties OFF" . As a women this is frightening to me especialy when he wants to throw anyone in the room with you out. He is scary and if he weren't a dr. he would be up on charges of abusing women.
