Dr. Joseph Toothaker-Alvarez, MD

His office staff is great but the wait to see the doctor is ridiculous. One hour and 15 minutes after the scheduled appointment and we're still waiting, and it's an early morning appointment. This is not the first time either. The last few times, he's plopped down on the stool, ran his hands through his hair and sighed heavily. Not sure if he was bored or just woke up.

He is the most amazing Dr around. He's understanding, patient, kind and he truly listens to his patients and what they need. He is the BEST!

I would not recommend Dr. Alverez at all. He has done absolutely nothing for me. All I have gotten is delays and excuses. He is not prepared for the appointments & was rude. My last appointment he didn't even know my history, ranted about insurance companies & walked out of the room.

Dr.Alvarez is an excellent doctor. He has the best bed side manner of any of my other doctors. He always takes his time to listen to me and doesn't have the God like attitude that a lot of doctors have.

Dr. Alverez seems like an okay Dr. but his staff is awful! They are very unorganized and don't have a clue as to what is going on. Dr. Alverez is always in a rush and is never prepared to see you. Every time he sees you its like he doesn't have your chart or know who you are or anything about your history. I think if he had a better staff he would be a much better doctor.

He seems to be a good doctor but his staff is horrible. So many errors and mistakes and no one seems to know what is going on. You cant ever get ahold of a manager or supervisor or the doctor to get things straight either. After 5 months of errors and not being able to get the correct test or follow ups and unable to let the doctor know this unfortunately will need to find a different doctor with better staff so that we can get the treatment we need.

I liked Dr Alvarez very much , but I had to stop being his patient because 9 times out of 10, I would get a recording which would say " Im sorry but we can't take your call now , leave a message and we will get back to you within 24 hours. Over time, I must have made 10 or 15 calls and not one was returned. I believe I got a live person maybe 2 times. I believe Dr. Alvarez is unaware of this situation.

I was in a lot of pain & very emotional...instead of trying to comfort me, he berated me for crying & left the room.

First time I saw him for a neck injury he was fine nothing amazing but helpful. But when I had to see him a few years later both times for pain management he was a complete jerk. No bedside manner. We were completely courteous and asked his recommendation on my diagnosis of fibro and chronic pain his exact words were " What do you expect me to do I'm not a fairy godmother." You would think a pain management dr would be interested in helping with pain. His staff messes up scheduling appointments and trying to get a call back when leaving a message is useless. Take caution.

Dr Alvarez was my pain Dr until I moved to New Mexico in 2007. Before I moved he told me I needed cervical surgery ASAP but I had to postpone it due to moving. I immediately went to a Neurologist when I got here and had an MRI and into surgery I went! I do believe it was Dr Alvarez' insistence that save me from potential paralysis! I pray GOD is blessing him in amazing ways!
