From the moment we met Dr. Joshua Phillip Melvin, I knew my mom was in exceptionally capable and compassionate hands. I will never forget the kindness and compassion you showed to me and my mother, Dr. Melvin. My mom (age 77) was undergoing a carotid surgery and needed general anesthesia. She also has a known genetic risk related to anesthesia, which made me extremely anxious going into the procedure. Dr. Melvin immediately took this seriously. He clearly explained that he would avoid any triggering agents, that the equipment would be fully prepared with her safety in mind, and that the entire team was aware of her risk factors. In that moment, I truly felt he knew exactly what he was doing. What stood out just as much as his clinical expertise was how he treated both of us as people. He knelt down to my mom’s level, spoke to her calmly and patiently, and made sure she felt safe and respected. He answered every question thoroughly and never made us feel rushed. My mom is recovering well and continuing to heal, and I truly credit Dr. Melvin’s careful, thoughtful approach for helping make this experience far less frightening for our family.
