Dr. Joya Sahu, MD

It's already extremely difficuly to get an appointment with a dermatologist at the Jefferson hospital and when I had my appointment with Dr Sahu, I was really disappointed. First, there was the nurse who talked to me about why I was there. I told them my problem and then there was a doctor's assistant who took time to hear me out and THEN Dr Sahu came...I waited in the examination room for close to an hour and then she ALSO brought another doctor (in training?) for my private problem. How was I supposed to feel comfortable telling every detail I wanted to get across? The worst part of it all was, she didn't spend 10 minutes with me!

I was referred to Dr. Sahu and was very hopeful that she would be able to help me. She sent a resident in to get my history, came in and said "the resident told me everything about you", wouldn't confirm with m wha it was the resident told her. Did a 5 minute exam of my body, ordered a blood test with a $1200 co-insurance (the test itself cost $4800 after the insurance adjustment), and never followed up on the results. I sent her several messages to get the results of the blood test she ordered, and she never called or contacted me to discuss them. I had to get the results of the test from another doctor who had to call the lab facility and have them faxed to his office. I would not recommend her to my friends.

One hour wait; $300 of medications prescribed; no heads-up on price or likelihood of success.

I have seen Dr Sahu a couple of times and really think she is great. She has a very engaging style, listens accurately and puts people at ease. She has treated and referred me for a couple of minor things but in each case I thought she was spectacular.

dr was a fly by. Dumped case on resident no oversight. Advice was poor. No experience in my condition. Staff rude. Residents talk about other patients in front of you. Treats you like a dollar sign. No confidence in this person or resident. Not a good experience. Run don't walk elsewhere. Resident run hospital. You might as well see the floor washer. Would give her a zero if I could. Went to a plastic surgeon who told me the truth, was more qualified and best of all wasn't punting cases to residents. Did all evaluations himself. Dr Sahu uses no loupe, no binocular lenses, no rulers for lesions, no body chart, no photos. Just unbelievable.

It is the philosophy of the department that you get the resident of the day. Dr Sahu breezes in and leaves. Very impersonal care. Very angry about this. If I want a resident to practice on me I won't make an appointment with her. Obnoxious staff particularly office manager. I can't assess her skills because she did not treat me. But she billed for the resident. And I don't like what the resident did. My opinion. If they had minus zero stars she wouldn't even get that.

Dr Sahu is less than the best dermatologist I have visited. Although she correctly diagnosed my derm disorder, she prescribed medication that was not indicated for this disorder. The rationale she provided seemed to make complete sense but after completing three failed courses of the treatment, I decided to seek out a second opinion and I'm so glad I did. I suffered with my derm disorder for an entire year before I got a second opinion and was cured within a month of making the appointment--most likely due to the fact that I was prescribed the correct medications to treat the disorder. I don't trust Dr Sahu's medical knowledge or opinion. I think her treatment plans aren't in the best interest of her patients but more in the interest of her financial benefit--after paying for countless medications and appointments, with not only failed attempts at resolving the problem but continuous relapses.
