Dr. Joyce Lovetta Bellamy

Dr Joyce Bellamy and her husband sabotaged their own business. I was not only scammed out of hundreds of dollars (they tried keeping all the money I had paid for orthodontic services but they finally agreed to give me back a portion based upon "good will" after receiving only 2 sets of trays out of 26) but Dr. Bellamy also performed work without my knowledge or permission. As if that wasn't bad enough, she wildly and purposely jabbed around my mouth including my tongue with numbing anesthetic resulting in a traumatic experience in which I felt like I was drowning throughout the entire procedure. Her husband thought it would benefit them to tell me how many degrees he had and how he was a pastor of a church ministry in Michigan, I'm assuming in an attempt to intimidate me when asking for my money back. FYI, they tried to involve the office of my now current orthodontist in refusing to give my money back, but thankfully the more professional orthodontic office refused to take part, but… did advise me of the attempt. I'm pleased to see this office close in our community and I can only HOPE that they've learned some lessons.

I went in for a cleaning and left with fillings that weren’t even needed. I was told I had underlying decay in fillings that I had previously; my teeth felt fine and Dr. Bellamy even said they looked good considering I hadn’t been able to keep up with regular cleanings bc of lack of insurance. I felt off with the recommendations to replacing my fillings, but she’s the professional and thus far service was good. I went along with it bc I can’t read an x -ray and trusted that I was being given accurate information. After, I paid I was talking to the service manager and he told me that business had slowed down for them during the pandemic. I was still feeling uneasy about it, but proceeded. I shouldn’t have and I recognize that as my error. My teeth are sensitive a month later; I had no sensitivity or sharp pains prior to my visit. On top of that, I asked for my dental records and they gave me the run around. I was told it was against the rules to send them electronically when I first… asked for them; then I was told they had to be sent to an encrypted email, which I have; then I was told I had to come in and sign the release; I went back to the office signed the form and was told that signature wouldn’t work for some reason; they then emailed it to me which could’ve been done from the beginning. I don’t appreciate how I was treated when trying to my records, and I don’t like feeling taken advantage of. I wouldn’t recommend this dentist office. I did get a second opinion, my filling was loose according to them. Dr. Bellamy did correct her work, even after saying she didn’t see the loose filling.

Dr. Bellamy is a wonderful dentist. She minimized the pain and made sure my fillings were perfect. I like her very much. Very caring attitude! Great with kids!
