Dr. Joyce Z Pere, MD

Never gave me my full hour and would ask me the same questions every week. One time I was only given 15 minutes (still paid for the full hour though). Would not recommend.

The first few moments I met this doctor I felt she was about the money first as her main motivation to work with me.

dr Pere doesn’t listen to you even though that is her job to gather data before prescribing. This type of doctor is why there is an epidemic of overprescribing as she will write you a prescription just to get you out the door. She acts like she is doing you a favor by listening at all.

I did not have a good experience with this psychiatrist. She always seemed to rush me through my sessions not giving me my full time. I felt like I was a bother to her! Dr. Pere has a very cold approach and I found her follow-up poor not recalling what we talked about from prior sessions. Quick to write prescriptions if thats what you want.

Dr. Peer made no effort to get to know me or understand any specifics about my ailments. She just wanted to play prescription roulette. Try this and then try that. Her mind was elsewhere.

Very disappointed. Cold personality and quick to write prescriptions. No follow up whatsoever to see my progress. Would not recommend this doctor.

After I waited past my appointment time, Dr. Pere rushed in and called me from the wait room in her clinic at Greenwich Hospital. I barely sat down when she told me she had an unexpected meeting she had to tend and asked me what prescriptions I needed. It was only my first time meeting her; I could have said ANYTHING! This is a bad practice of medicine. I felt she was unprofessional, and took absolutely no interest in my current status. I decided to not "reschedule" another appointment with her thereafter. She did not even apologize for her having to break our appointment time either. I had travelled quite a distance for my appointment in traffic and made it there on time only to be turned away. Would not recommend this doctor.

On my first visit, Dr. Pere told me that the Greenwich Hospital outpatient mental health department clinicians work closely as a team and therefore I would have to drop my therapist and switch to someone who worked at GH OPD. This was not true. They do not coordinate care in a clinic fashion. This was confirmed for me by the GH OPD I ended up seeing - after having to drop my existing therapist for the "privilege" of seeing Dr. Pere. Dr. Pere signed prescription renewal forms for other patients DURING my appointment until I objected. Apparently she didn't think I could read "Medication Renewal Request" upside down and would think she was taking notes. Dr. Pere insisted I give her "yes or no" questions about drug efficacy, when as with ANYONE's mental health situation my symptoms are more complicated than "yes or no" - especially given their interplay with unrelated physical symptoms. After another prescribing psychiatrist at the hospital did not respond in 10 days to my… request for a tapering regimen to discontinue a medication well known for discontinuation (withdrawal) effects, despite his assuring my therapist that he would "take care of it", I reluctantly went to Dr. Pere again for a tapering regimen. Dr. Pere gave me incorrect information about my options, and a prescription for the non-extended release version of the medication I was taking. This would have made the withdrawal (discontinuation) effects worse. That's the definition of incompetence, and it means doing more harm than good. I feel badly for her patients who don't know as much as I do about psychiatric medication and patients' rights. I strongly suggest patients look elsewhere for mental health care based on my experience in 4 or 5 appointments with her.

she is great. she is right to the point and she gets things done for you to feel better.
