Dr. Juan Carlos Abanses, MD

This is an ER. He cant be responsible for the waiting times. However, my son checked in with 99 temp then within 45 minutes it went to 106.5.. WOW.. The ER was full and he was working alone that day. The nurse took quick actions for medication to bring his fever down. They took a flu test instantly and brought back the results in less than 2 minutes. Dr. Abanses came in within 10 mins of the result and talked with me about the diagnosis. He was very personable and kind. Very approachable and informative. Being so busy he did forget to give us 1 of the prescriptions. I called the ER and explained. He said he would call it in. HOWEVER, when I went to the pharmacy, he came in himself. He had personally carried my prescription to the pharmacy. To add to that he brought me a 60.00 inhaler mask for my son because he said he could give a prescription for it and it was costly. The look on the pharmacy employees was astonishment as I am sure the look on my face. I logged on the… net to check if he had a private practice. Unfortunately no, but if he did, he would be my FIRST choice. Its rare for a busy ER doctor to take so much time and care. I will not forget him for his kindness to us..

My son and I had Dr. Abanses during a pediatric ER visit with the stomach flu. I can't comment on appointment time, wait time, and staff because it was an ER. Dr. Abanses doesn't make those decisions. But I am online today looking to see if Dr. Abanses has a private office. I liked him so much better than our current pediatrician I would like to swap my children over to his office.

I was so embarassed that it was a Saturday and I realized while bathing my daughter that she had worms coming from her bottom. I couldn't wait until Monday so I headed to the ER. I was so worried they would give me a hard time that I had a child with worms. Instead I met Dr. Abanses. It was busy and he still took the time to sit down and talk with me and alleviate all my concerns and answer all my questions. He took me seriously and treated me with respect. In the end I left feeling better about the whole situation and with the medicine to treat my daugther's problem. Thank you Dr. Abanses for your compassionate care in my time of need!

Excellent bedside manners took my criticaly sick child and made them better.

Terrible experience with this Dr.! Upon taking our 1 yr old to the ER at Huntsville Hospital for a fever of 103, we were accused of abuse to our child and threatened with DHR because an X-ray was misread and appeared that our baby had a broken collar bone. Dr. Abanses insisted that this was an old break and repeatedly asked us (accusingly) how this happened and "oh, you really don't know how this happened?". He proceeded to order a full body scan, resulting in about 27 more unnecessary X-rays to our infant, who was very ill, keep in mind. Throughout this harrowing experience, he never once did a physical exam to her collar bone, just quickly rushed to judgement, threating DHR and exposing our screaming sick baby to unnecessary doses of radiation. After it was abundantly clear that our child had NO BROKEN BONE, Dr. A came in and tried to laugh it off and never even treated the problem in which we brought our child to the ER to begin with....103 FEVER! Follow protocol before A)accusing… parents of abuse/negligence B)subjecting a child to unnecessary radiation. Next time try a physical exam. You should be able to fell such a "bad break" on a 12 month old child!
