HORRIBLE experience overall. Here’s the thing- I understand that for a surgeon, removing wisdom teeth is an everyday routine procedure. What THEY need to understand is that for us, it’s a once in a lifetime thing and it’s a little concerning for most of us. So I came in for a consultation which was $180. He didn’t even sit down. It was so rushed that I think he was in and out in 60-90 seconds. He said “open your mouth….yup no problem come back asap for procedure.” I asked him a couple questions as he was trying to walk out which he answered as a courtesy to me. Day of the surgery comes and he comes in and put me under. Does the surgery and I wake up and he’s gone. No problem. I go home and it actually felt ok for the first day or two. Then the pain began and it was truly unbearable. I couldn’t eat anything except apple sauce and ice cream and even that hurt. Not his fault I guess. After a couple days of that I come in to see him for a follow up. At this point the pain is so unbearable… that I’m thinking it might be an infection or something. He walks in and opens my mouth and in 30 seconds says “it’s all good” and gives me a syringe to clean my gums with. Sends me home. At this point I’ve been there 3 times and seen the doctor for less than 5 minutes. I went to NY the next day (as I told him before my surgery) and the pain was getting worse. Finally I had to text him. I took a bunch of photos and sent them to him and he says “come in asap”. Im in NYC. I would actually maybe book a flight but based on my experience with him, I could go all the way there for 45 seconds and he says “it’s all good just go home”. I was trying to get some more assurance from him based on the very detailed photos I sent him but he was pretty much unresponsive to my concerns. Finally I gave up and decided I would just go to a doctor in NYC and forget about this guy. The surgeon told me that one of my gums had a ton of excess tissue hanging that will need to be removed. I asked her why the surgeon didn’t just remove it or stitch it up when I was under and she said “I have no clue, but it’s going to need to be done”. I see and feel what she is talking about and I know she’s right. I’m not sure why Portuondo didn’t see this at surgery or the next day. I also have a deep gash on my inner cheek that has nothing to do with the gum. I was unconscious but it seems like it was collateral damage. Overall I feel like this is one of the more expensive guys around but he acts like it’s a factory. He gives pretty much zero personal attention and gives the patient the feeling that he doesn’t care. Like I said, I’ve been there 3x and spent less than 5 minutes with him total (except when I was unconscious in surgery). These surgeons need to stop acting like rock stars and give us as patients a little more reassurance and support. I need to get my gum fixed and I SHOULD go to him and he SHOULD fix it for free but I’d rather pay someone new to do it than have to deal with this guy again. Very unpleasant. GREAT receptionists and support staff though!

Robots, from the main person in the office til the last one it’s all programmed just to get paid and get you out of there. Just because it’s in coral gables and some ppl agree with the office group does not make it right. Again the whole staff is program to say the exact same thing at the exact same time it’s all about money there. Glad I did not elect them.

Horrible attitude; was so rough with my daughters head during surgery and placed it wrong on the head rest; woke up from anesthesia from the pain on her head and he did not care. Ended up with a huge bump on the back of her head.

Having been a patient for 13 + years, I gladly share that the experience has been nothing short of excellent. From the immediate and punctual welcome in a warm, modern setting by staff member Annie, to the professional medical attention provided by Dr. Portuondo and his assistants, Claudia and Judy, one leaves informed, reassured and successfully treated at a much higher level of quality care. I recommend the services of Dr. Portuondo and his fine staff without hesitation and would urge those needing oral surgery to receive the benefit of his fine professional talents. J. Cano

Go somewhere else! He upcharges on everything. I would never recommend him to anybody. Staff and him are rude!

Don't be fooled. Dingy, dirty, unsanitary. I found pieces of other people's teeth, and blood stains on my chair as I awaited to be administered sedation. I was left alone in the room while recovering from sedation, then rudely sent off. The staff in the rooms themselves, might not be so much to blame as the ones up front overbooking and pretending to make it all beautiful. One star is way too much I couldn't write a review without a star hence the one star which should be considered a warning. I developed an infection, he would "pack" my sockets and just give me oral medication, dismiss the pain I was in and call me dramatic. To this day I am horribly traumatized.
