Dr. Juan Carlos Salgado Campo, MD

"This doctor does not take the time to read the patient's medical history. He will take anyone "local" and once he accepts the case does not explain prognosis, or risks involved to proxy. He is not exactly personable. Lacks bed-side manner. He's a transplant doctor who subjects all patients to be put on ECMO regardless of their condition and this is a "bridge to nowhere" in most cases, as it was in my mother's case. If you or your family find yourself in his care, please, understand he is not compassionate and will disregard your questions. Makes the family feel like there is no point in explaining because they are not "experts" like him. The waiting game is his tactic. Will present topic of "letting your loved one go, as to not subject them to more" as though the family is responsible for the situation. The minute he took my mom's case he was responsible for her care but did not seek out the proxy, as my mother was intubated and sedated. He did not explain reasons to assume she'd… suddenly be a possible candidate for lung transplant and the risks associated. She had many underlying issues that would make her an unlikely candidate, it would have been a quick check of her charts. He did not follow through on what he explained would be the End of Life protocols. He came in suddenly and tweaked the machines and my mother started going into full “air hunger” mode with full on grimacing, wincing and opening her eyes wide open as she turned purple and blue and gasped like a fish out of water when we were told he’d be there bedside with his team and nurses to sedate on command to prevent what we saw. He left the room shortly thereafter without saying anything and never returned even after she passed. It was a total lie. I had to run to beg the nurse to put more sedation and she said they wouldn’t let her. Her morphine drip was the same level as the day before and it was clear her doesn’t monitor sedation levels properly. I implore you to think twice about using him. There are others that don’t give off bad energy. Do your research, because he won’t.

This doctor fully admitted that he doesn’t take the time to read a patient’s previous medical history. He subjected my mother to a procedure that is the first step for lung transplant without checking her underlying conditions. The ECMO carries risks and he did not explain anything. The minute he took my mother’s case he was negligent by failing to give a prognosis, alternative treatments and risks involved with the ECMO or the transplant. Nothing. Do your research and take the time to see another doctor. He is jaded and doesn’t want to be pestered by questions. He seems to be better suited to be a teacher for incoming doctors than to be an actual doctor as his bedside manner is terrible. He gives off an uneasy energy. He doesn’t follow up with the proxy not even to offer condolences. He doesn’t follow through on what he says regarding End of Life protocol. Said he’d be there with his team when my mother was taken off life support but he wasn’t. The sedation levels were not checked and… we watched my mother die a terrible death that included wincing, grimacing, opening her eyes wide open and her body showing evident signs of “air hunger” even though we were promised that a nurse would be right there to provide more sedation to prevent that. All lies. This doctor was excruciatingly unprofessional, as was all of his team. I don’t recommend this doctor. If I could give zero stars I would.

Dr. Salgado runs a patient centric pactrice at which he creates good relationships with his patients. He is well liked and on top of the latest treatments. As a pharmacist I only trust my health to doctor's who know their specialty better than the rest and CARE about their patients as family.
