I called to make an appointment for my annual physical (I was a new patient) to establish care, had to wait 6 weeks to get in (ok, no big deal). Arrived to my 9am appointment fasting so I could get my cholesterol checked. We spoke about things my previous ND had been treating me for (General in nature) and a little bit about my sleep. I was clear in my communication about the type of visit I was scheduling for, and when the ND in residency asked what I wanted to focus on I said that this was to establish care and have my annual labs. I was charged for a $160 problem visit vs the visit being covered as an annual visit through my insurance. I called to plead my case and they refused to change the billing. I am a RN who works in acute care, and have worked in a busy primary care office setting as well. I understand what an annual visit entails. I will never go back to this provider. Her bedside manner was lacking to begin with and her phlebotomy skills were atrocious. I… actually asked if I could poke myself FOR HER. I will be looking for another provider and reporting this unethical money grabbing practice to my insurance company.
