Dr. Julie Michelle Chase, MD

Our experience with this doctor was deeply frustrating and concerning. She came into the room with a clear agenda and diagnosis already in mind, without conducting a proper exam or listening to the actual symptoms. Despite not evaluating the criteria or asking about family history, she confidently stated, “She did,” and dismissed everything- refusing to hear us out because she “was the expert.” She constantly talked, didn’t listen to the few words we were able to say, and made it clear she believed she was the only expert, even while ignoring standard diagnostic procedures. The symptoms and pain were dismissed as mental health issues without any real investigation or empathy. We wanted to explain or show what was going on, but she would keep on stroking her own ego before we could say anything at all. Just because symptoms weren’t visible at that exact moment doesn’t mean they aren’t present or valid. She says she did the exam and the criteria, but never did a complete exam for the… specified symptoms. Her bedside manner was cold, dismissive, and borderline condescending- completely inappropriate, especially in pediatrics. She made unsupported claims, refused to let us tell her about the symptoms and other doctors’ concerns, and appeared to gaslight us by insisting that any disagreement meant we and everyone were wrong and laughed, even though she didn’t even do her job correctly. This is rheumatology; we expected just to be asked about symptoms, family history, medical history, etc., and get some stuff done. Even though other doctors aren’t the “experts”, the “criteria” for the concerned illness expressed by the doctors are the same. That’s why they referred us to rheumatology, that’s why people go see her. They have specific symptoms doctors are wondering about, and she is to comply, hear out concerns, and just listen to the patient- BECAUSE she is a medical professional and it is her JOB! Especially to a child. She doesn’t hear your whole story or listen to you. Everyone but her is the expert and is wrong. We also waited two hours before even being seen. Overall, it felt manipulative, unprofessional, and completely one-sided. This doctor showed no empathy, no willingness to listen, and did not do her job thoroughly. I would strongly advise others to seek care elsewhere.
