The best doctor and treatment team I could have hoped for. Personal yet professional.

Dr. Julio Peguero is with Oncology Consultants in Houston. This man is a terrible physician, in my opinion. I think that his positive reviews are probably “fake”. Within 2 weeks of me mentioning that I was probably going to give him a bad review, several 5 Star reviews showed up for him. Before that, his rating was under 3 Stars. I was diagnosed with a pancreatic cancer called a NeuroEndocrinTumor or NET for short. Peguero became my oncologist. 1. I don't know if Dr. Peguero is incompetent, doesn't care, a mean person, or simply over his head? But his idea of practicing medicine is bizarre to me. 2. It has always been difficult to get diagnostic test results from Peguero. On one occasion his nurse gave me the results. I said that I wanted to discuss the results with the doctor and she said “No! I just gave you the results”. 3. Peguero would not give me the results of the Tumor Board Meeting. This report was critical to me because I needed to decide whether or not to have… surgery. I asked 3 times for these results. Finally I contacted the Director of Oncology Consultants who was able to get the results to me, a full month after Peguero had the results in his hands. I have never been given an explanation for this. If Peguero suggests it was because he was on vacation, that's flatly untrue. I know that doctors need vacation time and my problems with him have nothing to do with it. 4. All of my office appointments with Dr. Peguero have been disappointing. It was never a private meeting. There would be several people in the room, besides my wife and I. He would hold court. On TWO separate occasions, while holding court, he blurted out to me “you have psoriasis”. No explanation. If he was trying to help me, he could have suggested a treatment or said anything else at all. Instead it was only “you have psoriasis”. I wouldn't mind if he was playing “Doc Martin”, if only he acted like he wanted to help me. 5. Dr. Peguero recommended a PET scan. He is part owner of a scan facility. He promotes it over the imaging department at Memorial Hermann Hospital. He says they have a NEWER MACHINE because they lease it. When I got there, the operator told me the machine was over 10 years old. 6. Dr. Peguero NEVER TOLD ME about NETSPOT SCANS, a test approved by the FDA over 2 years ago. Two other doctors asked me if I had had it. It's obviously VERY IMPORTANT. A NETSPOT SCAN is much more sensitive than previous tests to determine if the NET has metastasized. Why didn't Dr. Peguero ever tell me about this critically important test? 7. The Director of Oncology Consultants of Houston seems to have no influence with Dr. Peguero. She was unable to set up a simple meeting with Dr. Pequero in order to discuss these problems I was having. I suspect that all of the doctors are the actual owners of the clinic so it does absolutely no good to complain. I would strongly recommend that Oncology Consultants be avoided and certainly avoid Dr. Peguero.

Dr. Peguero is an excellent doctor! I have great confidence in his medical skills and knowledge. He takes a personal interest in your needs and concerns. He also has an excellent staff at the Willowbrook office -- very efficient and helpful. I have been seeing him for several years and have had no complaints of any kind.

Excelente doctor , ha sido buen medico para mi papa, practicamente le salvo la vida en los dos ultimos anos mi papa ha estado en una condicion excelente.

My visit with Dr. Peguero was excellent. He was easy to understand, clear and I didn't feel rushed. He answered all of my questions. I have a better understanding of my condition and I'm really happy with the attention I received.
