Summary

Dr. Razzak is a Professor of Emergency Medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine, where he leads research programs across three academic departments of Emergency Medicine. His research, education, and policy work in emergency care have primarily focused on Pakistan, where his contributions have transformed the landscape of emergency medicine. As the founding chair of Emergency Medicine at Aga Khan University in Karachi, Dr. Razzak established Pakistan’s first academic emergency medicine department, launched the country’s first residency program, and served as a national leader in expanding training programs across the country. His impact extends beyond academia—he was the founding CEO of Aman Healthcare Services, where he spearheaded Pakistan’s first Advanced Life Support Ambulance service in Karachi, a model later adopted and scaled up by the Government of Sindh across the province. Additionally, he was the inaugural director of the World Health Organization's first-ever Collaborating Center on Emergency Care in a developing country, supporting emergency care systems across South Asia, the Middle East, and North Africa.Currently, Dr. Razzak and his teams in Karachi and New York are running a multidimensional program to strengthen emergency care for the most vulnerable populations. His work extends across the entire "chain of survival"—from bystanders to pre-hospital transport to high-quality emergency care at medical facilities. One of his most impactful initiatives, the Pakistan Lifesavers Program, launched five years ago, has trained over half a million Pakistani youth in life-saving skills such as bleeding control and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). His team has also played a key role in evaluating EMT graduates from the Rescue 1122 Academy in Punjab and developing locally adapted Basic Life Support courses for healthcare providers.Dr. Razzak is internationally recognized as a leader in emergency care research and policy. He led the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Collaborative on Enhancing Emergency Care Research in LMICs (CLEER) and is among the top 50 NIH-funded researchers in Emergency Medicine in the U.S., top 2% scientist worldwide by Stanford University and received Leadership in Public Health Award by the Society of Academic Emergency Medicine. He has held tenured professorships at Johns Hopkins University and Aga Khan University and has authored over 200 peer-reviewed publications, monographs, and book chapters.
