Dr. Justin Meuse, MD

I don't understand why he is rating so highly, "I was referred by a Dr that retired recently, in my initial visit I didn't feel very comfortable granted he was quick to help address my migraine issues however my other neurological issues he just shut down and wouldn't even discuss it by changing the subject. I will be seeking care elsewhere and may take the advice of others to file formal complaints. I didn't ask for the issues I have and I refuse to be treated like a paycheck

I saw Doctor Meuse for Trigeminal Neuralgia, I was in terrible pain, and he could get me in the quickest. I found him to be very friendly, and provided me with the information and treatment I needed. I am so grateful they could get me in when they did, as this condition is extremely painful. I have had to adjust my medications, and the staff has responded very quickly.

Meuse was rather disrespectful towards me at my appointment and seemed fixated on an old mental health dx in my file, which he seemed to believe was the cause of every symptom i was experiencing. His tone and lack of serious consideration of other potential diagnoses led me to believe he assumes most (if not all) patients with psychiatric dxs make up symptoms or are so unstable they are imaging non existent symptoms. I found this tone upsetting and his attitude disqualifying for a doctor.

Long story short, I went to see Meuse about pain in my arms which my primary care thought may be due to nerve damage. Dr. Meuse did not bother to do a physical or ask me standard questions you'd expect, but he did seem fixated on a Depression diagnosis I was given a few years ago and which has since resolved with medication. His questions appeared to imply he was convinced that I was experiencing my arm pain due to my 'mental illness'. In other words, it was 'all in my head'. I found this odd, given he did not know the status of my depression at the time of the appointment, nor did he speak to my past depression treatment providers. It seemed to me that he simply assumed that all depression patients are mentally ill, ergo experience fake pain syndromes. He also cut me off disrespectfully a few times as I tried to clarify his reasoning. I think it's probably time to find a new neurologist. Austin Diagnostic Clinic-if you're reading this, why is this type of behavior by clinicians OK?

My fiance has been having pain on the left side of his face, from what we suspect is a damaged nerve ending. When my fiance went to Meuse, he basically told him that it was "all in his head". This isnt the first time I've read about neurologists telling their patients that their pain is all in their head. Anyway he gave him some meds. The meds barely worked. My fiance tried calling back so many times and left messages saying this isn't working. He took his sweet time calling him back. After what seemed like forever, Meuse finally got back and just said "just keep taking the meds for the entire 2 weeks they were prescribed." Honey - if a patient is in tremendous amounts of pain and says the meds aren't effective, you should listen to them. It had been like a full week and they hadn't been working well. He ended up having to get prescription meds from his mother to help with the head/face pain, and we ultimately decided to find another neurologist. When we went to see another doctor… about the face pain and explained to her that my fiance was told that it was "all in his head", even she thought that was strange. I just don't recommend this neurologist.
