Dr. Kalpana M Kumar, MD

Dr. Kumar has been my healthcare provider since 2013. My most recent visit was for an annual check-up on 5-4-2021. She’s professional, compassionate and an overall excellent/outstanding healthcare practitioner. She takes the time needed to thoroughly assess my healthcare needs and is totally in tune with and takes time explaining the mind/body connection to mental and physical health. A common theme in my care has been prevention through a healthy diet, exercise and stress management. I appreciate her knowledge of and willingness to refer me to alternate treatment modalities as needed. Most important, she practices evidence based medicine supported by science. She is passionate about education and educating her patients as evidenced by the many webinars she has generated over time and made available on the Ommani Center website. Last but not least, Ommani Center staff have been consistently professional and helpful throughout the time I’ve been a patient of Dr. Kumar.

The first time I went to Dr. Kumar I was so touched that I had finally found a doctor who actually cared about me and really wanted to get to know me and my history. I was treated with such kindness and expertise. Over the years my health has improved greatly and I now live pain free and I feel better in my late sixties than I did forty years ago! Dr. Kumar has great integrity, she tells the truth about the best researched health and nutrition practices. She is a master at interpreting my bloodwork and tests and I feel very cared for. Her practice is top notch!

I was a patient for 6 years. I should have looked elsewhere much earlier but I kept giving her more chances. At every visit her answer to any health issue is: 1) Buy her book 2) Stop eating meat 3) Buy the Orenda products that she sells. I bought the book right after my first visit. It’s not well written or researched. I stopped eating meat for a month. It changed nothing. I spent a fortune on Orenda products. They didn’t help me but she kept offering them again and would mention that they helped me so much when I did use them. Go see a doctor who doesn’t have a side hustle!

Dr. Kumar did not listen to a word I said. She was selling some vitamins saying they were a cure for basically any ailment you might have. In addition she talked about leaky gut, going vegan, buying her book, and she spent time selling the various services of those associated with her practice. I felt like I was at a used car lot, certainly not the office of a medical professional.

I'm new to the area, and needed a new Primary Care Physician. The minute she walked in, she looked at me and stated the she could not be my primary care physician because I was on 4 meds and stated that my liver was probably already failing. I just stared at her, fighting back the tears. She said the only way she would see me was if I went off my meds, ate only a plant based diet, drank no alchohol, and ate no sugar. She stated that by the look of my face, I was living a toxic lifestyle and my liver would give up. I was in a bad accident and needed my lyrica for pain. I am on a statin, a thyroid medication , and an anti-depressant. She stated that she wouldn't take on a patient that would only be in it half-heartedly. She said I needed to buy her book and her probiotics, which cost $68.00 I wouldn't want to be her patient after meeting her anyway. What a rude person that is completely full of herself. And her book is simular to any other self-help book that will only collect dust on… my shelf....

Dr Kumar likes to hear herself talk and works very hard to promote herself. Her focus on the patient is limited to lecturing instead of really listening to the patient. No matter what is going on with your health, she schedules lots of follow up visits and loads of expensive lab tests. Find a different doctor.

She seemed caring and compassionate at first. Then the second appointment she came in and refused to listen to me when I told her that her current treatment was making me feel worse. Stuck it out for a few months but in the end I canceled my other follow up appointments. The only response I got from the receptionist when I canceled was whether or not they were going to get their money. I ended up spending well over $500 out of pocket and just got stuck with a lab bill of over $730 as she ran tests that weren't covered under my insurance. Will never go back!!

At first she seemed insightful and caring, and I kept trusting in her theories; but her treatment messed up my systems and when I kept calling she said I needed to see psychiatric help. Her treatment was the problem, but she kept trying to push my issues into a preconceived answer. She also kept pushing her book, which I read, but found absolutely no help for me issues. Her ego has not been subordinated. I will never return to her, nor recommend her.

Dr Kumar is a compassionate, direct and skilled professional. She referred me to a specialist that complemented the care I received from Dr Kumar. A nice complete package.

Love her approach but sometimes feel she is trying to "sell" or push ideas to fund her practice. She schedules a lot of follow up visits.
