Dr. Kamal Raymond Chemali, MD

Excellent Doctor for getting a diagnosis and a treatment plan but that is where the buck stops! I was a patient of his at Sentara Norfolk for seven years receiving IVIG treatments but when Covid began he just up and left all his patients high and dry! A cookie cutter letter stating blah blah blah moving on blah blah blah enclosed is a list of Physicians that you may contact for future care. Here is the biggest JOKE of all there was no list included! Contacted his inept assistant who stated she would place that information in My Chart online never did! My local medical caretaker reached out at least a dozen times for my records and for that list no one from Sentara ever responded back. With that said I have a port in my chest and have had zero treatments for two freaking years! So, all the improvement in health went out the window when the infusions stopped! Hundreds of thousands of dollars later I am back to square one! He has now taken his talents to teaching which is admirable but… certainly he lacks the understanding that his patients are not just lab Guiana pigs we are human beings. Lacks empathy! Any decent doctor would have ensured that their patients were going to be taken care of. Shame on him! P.S. We had the opportunity to hear him play the piano and he is just mediocre nothing special.

Dr. Chemali and his staff are nice enough, but I waited a year for this appointment, was sent for a ton of tests and thought it could be worth the wait because I might finally get some answers. Had already gotten autonomic testing elsewhere that was abnormal but Dr. Chemali wanted to do all new testing, which was another 8 month wait. Finally completed all the testing, never got a call back about ANY of the results. I finally reach out to them requesting results or at the least further guidance. I receive a voicemail and and email all saying the results were “mostly normal” and to follow up with my PCM for continued symptoms. No real one-on-one explanation as to why 1st testing was abnormal but another was normal. I can take normal results, in fact I look forward to them, but when someone waits over a year for an appt and testing, the very least you could do was give a follow up appointment to review results in person- ESPECIALLY if my insurance and my copays have paid for a million… dollar work up.

Dr. Chemali has been my doctor since 2013 and he has given a better quality of life which I will be forever grateful for. He deserved to win the Patient Award. He is brilliant!

After 1st visit he will no longer follow up with you. Schedule you for test and send you on your wsy

Truly a brilliant mind and excellent diagnostician. I Fly in to see him from out of state, but there is very little to zero follow up. Medical Assistant is inexperienced & has no idea what she's doing. Never answer their phone or follow up on what they're supposed to do. Once you leave the office your on your own basically. Even with that, this man knows his stuff, others Dr's don't even come close to his expertise! So weigh the good with bad.

Didn’t explain diagnosis and left. 6 month trying to get call backs for results or care

After ordering treatments for disease he doesn’t follow thru on orders patient t well being or take calls about concerns questions or side effects no patient education and if you ask he dismisses your questions Self involved preforms piano playing in lobby at hospital but won’t reply to medical complications Scary situation

After 1 1/2 years of having POTS, I decided to see Dr. Chemali. He is investing more than anyone has. I highly recommend this doctor. He is giving his all to find the root cause

It takes weeks to get any kind of response from his staff. Also after my diagnosis, they were supposed to file prior authorization paperwork and 6 weeks after the fact they still had not done it and were making excuse after excuse why it wasnt done. The appointment where i was diagnosed, he barely explained my condition to me and i left with more questions than answers. He didnt even open a file or look at the computer to discuss my lab results with me.

While Dr. Chemali is a excellent doctor in DX the rare when it comes to following up or answering questions or getting into see him because other doctors do not understand the treatments nor the diseases it is a nightmare! They never answer even thou they promise to call back!
