Dr. Karanjit Singh Basrai, MD

I was fortunate to meet and be under Dr. Basrai’s care this past year while I was living in a rehabilitation center following my spine reconstruction surgery. Dr. Basrai was truly a gift and I was so grateful for his kind, compassionate and attentive care. Dr. Basrai is incredibly knowledgeable and extremely good at what he does. He is an empathetic gentleman who never compromises his professionalism. He takes time to listen and his main priority is to ensure quality care for one’s overall health; both physically and mentally. Dr. Basrai is a superb listener who explains everything in detail, and I was blown away and beyond impressed with how much of my personal feedback he was able to absorb, retain and process. When it came time for my discharge, he explained to my daughter all the “little” things I had said over the course of my stay; i.e. “she doesn’t like it when the sheet is wrinkled because it hurts her wound”, “she doesn’t like this scar because....”, etc. This incredible… attention to me and my care was emotionally overwhelming; I don’t think any doctor has ever made me feel as cared about as Dr. Basrai did in those moments, and I will forever respect and appreciate him for it. I fully trust Dr. Basrai, and there’s very few people, doctors included, that I can wholeheartedly say that about.

I was in the service industry for 40 years (AT&T) and found that people always take the time to complain but seldom recognized service that was excellent. I made a commitment to myself to never let an employee that provided my customers a service that exceeded their expectations go unrecognized. I found that there wasn’t anything I could do that motivated my technicians more than to know that their customers and their company appreciate what they do. I carry that commitment into my personal life. My wife recently fell and required a complete knee replacement which was performed at Sutter General Hospital. The extent of the surgery required a two week stay at the Sutter rehabilitation Institute. Dr. Karanjit Basrai was the supervising physician during her time there. SRI is a very busy institution consisting of a medical staff, complete therapy department and nursing staff all overseen by Dr. Basrai. Somehow he managed to see my wife every day, he was alway very professional,… always willing to take the time to answer questions and alleviate any concerns and always with a smile. Dr Basrai cared for my husband during his 2 week rehab admision after lumbar spine surgery. He was very attentive, explained treatment plans, answered questions and addressed issues like pain management very compassionately, while minimizing long term negative effects. My husband was well prepared to be duscharged home safely after his stay.

Dr. Basrai is a wonderful, caring doctor. After a traumatic motor vehicle accident, I was in a hospital and skilled nursing care for 3 months, and then transferred to Sutter Rehabilitation Institute (SRI). In the 7 days I was there, before being able to return home, Dr. Basrai accomplished a lot for me as a patient struggling with pain. I arrived apprehensive and concerned about my pain medication being administered on time. Within hours of my arrival at SRI, Dr. Basrai put me at ease, expressed his concerns about the heavy dosage of pain meds I was taking, and carefully explained his treatment plan for me to transition off and avoid becoming dependent on them. During my stay at SRI, I received intensive therapies, and I was able to partner with Dr. Basrai and his goal to have me completely off Oxycontin before I was discharged home. He also coached me how to slowly reduce my Oxycodone dose when I got home and to work closely with my primary care provider on the other medications I was… taking. I was so impressed by how thorough and attentive he was. Dr. Basrai is totally committed to his patients’ wellbeing, and I am one of the grateful recipients.

Dr. Basrai attended my wife in the stroke unit of Sutter Rehab. He communicated well, was compassionate, and follow medical protocols proven to be most effective. Most importantly, he explained the reason for changes to her previous medications.
