Dr. Karen Schloemer Atencio, MD

Dr. Karen Schloemer was born in Charlottesville, Virginia and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana. Dr. Schloemer received her undergraduate degree in biology from Indiana University graduating magna cum laude in 1997. She was elected into Phi Beta Kappa Society and the Alpha Lambda Delta National Honor Society. Dr. Schloemer earned her medical degree from Indiana University School of Medicine in 2001. She completed a residency in Anesthesiology at Indiana University School of Medicine in 2005. She joined the Center for Pain Management in August 2006 after completing a fellowship in Pain Management at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. Schloemer is a member of several professional societies including American Society of Anesthesiologists, International Anesthesia Research Society and American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine. Her professional interests are in the treatment of fibromyalgia, treatment of chronic pelvic pain, and of chronic abdominal pain.
