Dr. Karen Elizabeth Chang, MD

Dr Chang is professional and intelligent, but is hands-off kind of doctor. She triage only, offering appointments to specialists. Myself and neighbor had same experience in physicals, we not asked to remove any article of clothes. Exam consists of answering questions, and blood draw. I respect that specialist have more knowledge, but initial hands-on exam be expected of internist. While in waiting area, you hear staff discussions on phone with other patients, concern of HIPAA.

After moving to colorado springs, I was looking for an primary care physician - specifically someone who was board certified in internal medicine vs family medicine as I have a somewhat complicated medical history with having an autoimmune disease . After doing some preliminary research on websites such as healthgrades and vitals, I called around to a few offices. Many of the internists had a 2-3 month waitlist, but I was able to get in with Dr. Chang that very same week. (She only works 3 days/week). Initially I was very impressed with the office. I spoke to the receptionist Jenn who was VERY pleasant and professional. When I arrived at the office for my appointment however, I was not very pleasantly greeted by a receptionist who was not wearing a name tag. I had been asked to arrive 20 min before my appointment time and ended up waiting 20 min after my appointment time to be seen (I had an early morning apt too). I had brought a complete copy of my medical records which I… offered to the nurse as well as Dr. Chang - neither of them took them and made a copy (which is strange - given that I was there to set up primary care). Although she was nice, she was a bit disorganized and unknowledgeable. I had mentioned needing to see a specialist in regards to my autoimmune disease - to which she responded that she didn't think anyone in the area was specialized. (I have a fairly common illness and know of plenty of offices around). As a healthcare professional myself, I seriously doubt Dr. Chang's medical knowledge - her recommendations were counter that of many specialists I've seen. I questioned her about of few of her recommendations and she immediately changed her mind in a wishy-washy way. Needless to say, I was disappointed in her care and wasted my time going in. I will be searching for a new doctor.
